Automatic planning is used to generate planning data automatically. Use this function to copy plan values automatically for processes that can be planned automatically, thus creating alternative plan versions. The data can also be edited in the process.

Automatic planning is made up of the following planning activities:

• Planning data or actual data is copied using SAP Copy Management and, if necessary, edited at the same time. The copy method in SAP Copy Management defines the method used to process data. For example, data is aggregated while it is being copied.

• Planning data or actual data is copied to a different plan version.
• The planning data for a plan version is deleted.
• The planning data for a plan version is released in the active plan version. This means that the planning data for a plan version is copied to the active plan version.

• Key figures are copied between planning versions with converted data (absolute or percentage-based data).
• Reference using converted data: generate planning data for new planning characteristic values (for example, purchasing organization R300) with references to existing characteristic.
