To create a promotion or an allocation table, the interface must receive information about where the articles, site and site groups to be used come from. This information is provided by assigning dimensions to the interface.

There are two possible methods of assigning dimensions:

• Directly using suitable planning characteristics for the planning step
• Using group break-downs

Grouping break-downs or characteristics are assigned to planning interfaces in Customizing for the planning step in question in MAP.

The following dimensions are required, depending on the interface category and the type of assignment to be used:

The following combinations of assignments are possible for planning interfaces:

• Two assigned characteristics:

• One characteristic is an article dimension (for example, the article dimension characteristic)
• The second characteristic is a site dimension (for example, site) or if you are using a promotions interface, a site group dimension (for example, planning characteristic 'region').

• An assigned characteristics and an assigned break-down:

• The characteristic is an article dimension and the break-down is a site dimension.
• The characteristic is a site dimension. If you are using a promotions interface, it is a site group dimension. The break-down is an article dimension (the break-down could, for example, be from a base merchandise category to articles).

• Two assigned break-downs:

• One break-down is an article dimension
• The other break-down is a site dimension
