During the planning and execution phases, the information available on the times listed below is constantly changing:

• Structure
• Planned costs and revenues
• Planned duration
• Required operating resources
• Available capacities

This sometimes makes cost planning in more than one version a good idea.

Plan versions are CO versions. You define them in the Project System IMG.

You can process the individual plan versions as follows:

• Store them separately
• Change them
• Copy them
• Compare them with each other in the information system (Plan/plan comparisons, comparison of actual costs with the various plan versions)

When you create a controlling area, the system automatically creates the CO version "Plan/actual" (version 000). Actual values are posted in this version.

You can copy the following values to plan versions:

• Manually planned costs in WBS elements
• Manually planned revenues in WBS elements
• Costs calculated for networks and logistical orders assigned to the project
• The revenue plan values from the WBS element billing plan are recorded in addition to the revenues from the sales and distribution documents assigned to the project.

If you are planning costs in a project for the first time, the system automatically creates CO version 0. Current planning always takes place in version 0. If you want to create a new plan version for your project cost planning, copy the existing plan version into one of the defined plan versions.

Plan versions for the manual plan values and the calculated plan values must be created separately. However, you can use the same version for both. This records all the planning for a project in one version, so that you can evaluate it in the information system.
