For internally processed activities you determine how much work is needed to conduct the activity, which capacities are required and which qualifications the personnel should have.

Activities and activity elements can also be performed outside of your company. The system takes the data in the activity and creates a purchase requisition which is processed by the purchasing department.

You can allocate materials to all activities in standard networks and networks.

You can assign production resources/tools (PRT) to each activty Unlike machines and fixed assets, production resources/tools (PRTs) are movable (non-stationary) operating resources, that are required to perform an activity and can be used repeatedly.

There are several ways to assign a document to an activity.

• In the Document Management System you can create a document for an activity.

• You can assign the document to an activity as a production resource/tool (category: document).

• Long texts describing an activity. On the screen, you usually see only the first line of the long text.

• Standard texts are text modules used for descriptions of procedures and other documentation of how to perform the work in an internally processed activity.

• PS texts are texts which you can define any way you like and which have text types for activities and WBS elements.

You can use the SAP Class System to classify activities. Within the Class System you can determine the values that are used to valuate an activity. Classification is also used for cost summarization.

The following is valid for activity organizational data :

• Material components must belong to the same company code as the activity to which they are allocated.

• The plant for the work centers used in internally processed activities must belong to the same company code and controlling area as the plant in the network header.

• Purchasing organization and plant must belong to the same company code in externally processed activities.

• You can enter the plant on the detail screen for a general costs activity. The system determines the company code from the plant you entered and checks it against the controlling area in the network header.
