The system locks the serial number master record in the Standard system during number assignment. However, you can deactivate this lock, and configure the system in such a way that several users can simultaneously create serial numbers for the same material.

You have reset the lock in Customizing under Plant Maintenance and Customer Service ® Master Data in Plant Maintenance and Customer Service ® Technical Objects ® Serial Number Management ® Deactivate Lock for Internal Serial Number Assignment.

If the lock has been deactivated, the system immediately updates the serial numbers created to the database during internal number assignment.

This means that as soon as you have canceled the creation operation not saved, numbers are not assigned continuously. However, you can fill these gaps at any time by manually creating the missing serial numbers.
