Filtering and Consideration of Supplies and DemandsLocate this document in the navigation structure

Use

You define which supply and demand elements are to be considered in the material shortage and uncovered demands calculations as well as in the check for uncovered manufacturing order components. You also define priorities for the demands for the uncovered demands calculation. That is, the sequence in which the demands are to be covered.

Activities

The activities involved in defining which supply and demand elements to be included in the calculation are basically the same for all shortage calculations. However, some additional settings have to be made to calculate uncovered demands or to check uncovered manufacturing order components.

Define Supply and Demand Profiles

In the Customizing activity Define Supply and Demand Profiles, you have already organized the supply and demand elements into supply and demand groups or you have checked that the SAP standard supply and demand profiles meet your requirements. You assign these supply and demand profiles to your material shortage profile and then assign the required supply and demand groups to the material shortage definition. This restricts the selection of supply and demand elements to the ones that are included in these groups. The following groups are available:

Supply Groups

Demand Groups

Stock

Negative Stock

Execution Supplies

Execution Demand

Ordered Supplies

Ordered Demand

Planned Supplies

Planned Demand

Forecast Demand

The groups are designed so that each group builds on the preceding group. This means that each group contains the elements of the preceding groups plus new elements. For the supply groups, for example, the group Stock only contains stock elements. The supply group Execution Supplies contains the supply elements in execution plus stock elements. The supply group Ordered Supplies contains the ordered supply elements, the supply elements in execution, and the stock elements.

Additional Activities for Calculating Uncovered Demand (External and Internal)

When creating the material shortage definition to calculate uncovered demands, you have selected the Calculate Uncovered Demands checkbox.

To calculate the sequence in which the external demands are to be covered, the system determines the MRP element importance for each demand element. This is based on the Category Importance that you gave the MRP element category in the demand profile. In the uncovered demands calculation, the system sorts the demands according to this category importance first. For all demands other than sales demand, the next sorting criterion is the requirement date.

For the sales or stock transfer demands bundled within the demand group Ordered Demands, you can define a more detailed sorting rule based on the Creation Date, Requirement Date, and the Item Priority. You define this in Customizing for the demand profile.

Additional Activities for Calculating Uncovered Manufacturing Order Components

When creating the material shortage definition to calculate the uncovered components for manufacturing orders (production and process orders), you have selected the Calc. Uncovered Demands and the Check MfgOrder Comps checkboxes.

Note

For consistency purposes, one material shortage profile can only contain one shortage definition that is used to check the coverage of manufacturing order components. This shortage definition is assigned to the user by the assignment of the material shortage profile in the Customizing activity Assign Material Shortage Profile to Users. This means that in the apps for monitoring and managing production orders and process orders, the user cannot choose which definition is to be used to calculate uncovered components as only one exists. However, the shortage definition is displayed in the app for information purposes.

Example

You can create one material shortage profile that contains the following material shortage definitions:

  • You can create a shortage definition to represent the standard MRP logic that compares all your supplies with all your demands. In this case, you enter the supply group Planned Supplies and the demand group Forecast Demands.

  • You can create a shortage definition that calculates your stock days’ supply. In this case, enter the supply group Stock and the demand group Planned Demands.

  • You can create a shortage definition that determines whether you have sufficient planned supplies to cover your ordered demands. In this case, enter the supply group Planned Supplies and the demand group Ordered Demands. Note that in this shortage definition, you also have to select the Calculate Uncovered Demands checkbox.
