Using Additional Characteristics to Find Objects Locate this document in the navigation structure

Use

You can create characteristics for an object type that refer to a field in an object table. These characteristics are known as reference characteristics (for more information, see the SAP Library Characteristics (CA-CL-CHR)). Reference characteristics can also be used for finding objects.

Prerequisites

In the user settings, select With additional Characteristics on the Value assgmt tab. In the find objects menu, choose Start of the navigation path Extras Next navigation step User settings. End of the navigation path

Procedure
  1. To use additional characteristics in your search, choose Start of the navigation path Extras Next navigation step Additional reference characteristics End of the navigation path from the find objects function. If no characteristics referring to the fields of your object type have been defined, this function is not active.

  2. You see a dialog box with a list of the fields from the appropriate object table for which reference characteristics are defined.

Select the additional characteristics you want to use in your search, and choose Continue .

The additional characteristics are copied across and put at the end of the list of characteristics.

    Example

You have created reference characteristics that refer to the fields Basic material and Volume in the material master table MARA. These reference characteristics have not been assigned to the class you are using to find a material. You know that the material you are looking for is made of aluminum. You choose Start of the navigation path Extras Next navigation step Additional reference characteristics, End of the navigation path and see reference characteristics BASIC_MATERIAL and VOLUME. If you select reference characteristic BASIC_MATERIAL , this characteristic is displayed on the characteristic value assignment screen, and you assign the value Aluminum to it. This characteristic is then used for finding objects.
