Deleting a Characteristic with Assigned ValuesLocate this document in the navigation structure

Procedure

You can still delete a characteristic from a class, even if classification records exist for this characteristic. The classification records are automatically deleted with the characteristic.

Caution

If a characteristic is inherited by subordinate classes in a class hierarchy, where objects are classified with the characteristic, you can no longer delete the characteristic from the class.

Once more than 400 objects have been classified in a class, you can no longer delete a characteristic that has values assigned by using the delete function. Instead:

  1. On the initial screen, enter the class from which you want to delete characteristics and choose Start of the navigation path Edit Next navigation step Special functions Next navigation step Delete char. w. vals. End of the navigation path

  2. Enter the characteristic you want to delete from the class.

  3. If you want to work with engineering change management, enter a change number. The change number must be active for both Characteristic and Classification.

  4. Once you have processed a characteristic with a change number, you can only delete the characteristic using a change number.

  5. Execute the function.

  6. You see a message telling you that the characteristic has been deleted from the class.

The characteristic and the values assigned to it are also deleted from classification records. The assignment of object to class is not deleted.
