Function documentationOutput of Sequence Numbers and Sequential Data

On labels, you can output texts and bar codes with variable data. On the Sequence Numbers/Data tab page, you control the output of sequence numbers and sequential data.

You can use the Static Bar Code expansion mode to output static bar codes. For more information, see Editing Specification or Parameter Symbols and Examples of Symbols.

Prerequisites

  • To output labels with variable data, you require the Sequence Numbers/Data tab page. This is only displayed when you edit a label template or create a label template by choosing Create Label (Create Label) or F7.

  • The number ranges for sequential numbering are defined in Customizing for Basic Data and Tools under Check and Specify Report Symbols.

  • Prerequisites for the output of bar codes as graphics: For the output of variable and static bar codes on labels, you require parameters with which you specify the properties of the bar codes on the label: The parameters and the associated default values are defined in Customizing for Global Label Management under Specify Parameters for Bar Codes and Sequence Numbers. In addition, these parameters are assigned to the bar code types in the Customizing activity Specify Bar Code Types.

  • Prerequisites for the output of bar codes as font: The parameters with which you specify the properties of the bar codes on the label are defined in the function module C128_DUMMY_CONVERSION_METHOD. You specify this function module as the processing method under Expansion Mode (see also Use of Bar Codes).

Features

You can output sequence numbers (such as the container counter) and sequential data (such as a list of handling units) as text or as a bar code. Using Define Number Range, you can output different sequence numbers at different positions on the label template.

You can generate the bar codes in one of the following ways:

  • Generate a bar code as a graphic

  • Generate a bar code using a font

For more information, see Use of Bar Codes.

Activities

You control the output of sequence numbers and sequential data on the Sequence Numbers/Data tab page:

  1. Select a number range that you want to use to output sequence numbers or sequential data on the label.

  2. Use the output type to specify whether you want to output sequence numbers or sequential data.

  3. Specify whether you want to output the sequence numbers or sequential data as text or as a bar code (Bar Code checkbox).

Depending on the output format, you can set different parameters for the output of sequence numbers or sequential data.

  4. Choose Insert WWI Object in Template (Insert WWI Object in Template) to insert the sequence numbers or sequential data into the label template.

    Recommendation Recommendation

For the output of sequence numbers or sequential data, create a separate text field for each number range.

    End of the recommendation.

Depending on the output type, various parameters are available that control the properties of the sequence numbers or sequential data.

  • Output type Number as Text:

    • Font Size: You can specify the font size for the text to be output. If you do not specify a font size, the size of the font is used.

    • Prefix: Before the sequence number, you can insert a fixed character string or a permanent text.

    • Postfix: After the sequence number, you can insert a fixed character string or a permanent text.

    • End of the sequence number: If you select this checkbox, only the end value of the sequence numbers is output. If you do not select this checkbox, the sequence number is output.

  • Output type Data as Text:

    • Font Size: You can specify the font size for the data to be output. If you do not specify a font size, the size of the font is used.

    • Prefix: Before the sequential data, you can insert a fixed character string or a permanent text.

    • Postfix: After the sequential data, you can insert a fixed character string or a permanent text.

  • Output type Numbers or Data as Bar Code:

    • Bar Code Type: Select a bar code type for formatting the sequence numbers or sequential data. Depending on the bar code type selected, different parameters such as Prefix or Width of Bar Code are displayed.

    • Prefix: Before the sequence numbers or sequential data, you can insert a fixed character string or a permanent text.

    • Postfix: After the sequence numbers or sequential data, you can insert a fixed character string or a permanent text.

    • Width of Bar Code: Depending on the bar code type, you can specify the width of the bar code in millimeters.

    • Height of Bar Code: Depending on the bar code type, you can specify the height of the bar code in millimeters.

    • Check Digit: You can specify whether a check digit is to be calculated for the bar code.

    • Bar Code Rotation: Depending on the bar code type, you can rotate the bar code in 90-degree increments when it is output.

    • Bar Width and Gap Width: For one-dimensional bar codes, you can specify the ratio of the bar width and gap width to the entire bar code width.
