Definition

As a special feature of the classification system, class type 023 has an object hierarchy for object types Material and Batch. In this object hierarchy, materials function like classes. When you assign a material to a class of class type 023, you can restrict the allowed values of the characteristics. You can only assign allowed values from this restricted range to a batch.

You cannot set up an object hierarchy for other objects without changing the program code.

Example

Example: The allowed values for characteristic VISCOSITY are restricted to 5000 - 12000 for a material. You can only assign values within this range to the batches you create for this material .

This restriction of the allowed values for subordinate objects ensures that the values assigned to subordinate objects are consistent with the values assigned to the superior object.

Note

If the allowed values for characteristic VISCOSITY are changed from 5000 - 12000 to 5000 - 8000 for your material, but the value 10000 has been assigned to a subordinate batch, the classification is no longer consistent, as the values assigned to the batch and the material no longer match up.
