Function documentationPhrase Set-to-Attribute Assignment

You use this function to assign a phrase set to a characteristic of a value assignment type or to a field in the SAP Environment, Health and Safety (EH&S) component. This makes the phrases in the phrase set available as a value set for assigning values to characteristics or fields.

You can also assign a user-defined text type to characteristics. This enables you to assign user-defined texts as values to this characteristic in the relevant user-defined text type.

Prerequisites

  • You have created the phrase sets (see Phrase Set Editing).

  • Before assigning phrase sets to new characteristics or fields, you must have executed the Activate Phrasing of Characteristics function in master data matchup.

For Characteristics
  • The characteristics to which you want to assign phrase sets must be of data type Character Format with 30 characters and belong to a value assignment type in the property tree (see Value Assignment Types and Characteristics Setup).

  • To ensure that the SAP system updates the display of characteristics to which phrase sets can be assigned, you have executed one of the following functions:

    • The Match Up Value Assignment Type and Characteristic function in master data matchup

    • The Match Up Characteristics function in phrase set-to-attribute assignment

      Note Note

When you set up your system, you can execute the Customizing activity Generate Standard Phrase Sets. The system then creates a phrase set for each characteristic of the data type Character Format with 30 characters that has the same key as the corresponding characteristic. In the activity Exclude Non-Phrase-Enabled Characteristics from Phrase Set Assignment, you can specify additional characteristics for which phrase sets are not to be created.

      End of the note.
  • To assign user-defined text types, you define in Customizing for Basic Data and Tools which user-defined text types can be assigned to a characteristic.

For Fields

The fields in the SAP EH&S components are only available for assigning phrase sets once you have executed the Activate Phrasing of Fields function in master data matchup. The function writes the relevant fields to the table TCG66.

Note Note

The fields to which phrase sets can be assigned are programmed especially for this purpose.

End of the note.

Features

You can choose the value assignment type or table for the field using the property tree:

  • All characteristics to which you can assign a phrase set or user-defined text type are listed for the selected value assignment type.

  • All fields are listed to which you can assign a phrase set for a selected table.

Activities

To assign a phrase set to a characteristic or field, proceed as follows:

  1. Choose one of the following:

    • In the phrase set header, phrase set name, phrase assignment, or phrase set hit list, choose Start of the navigation path Utilities Next navigation step Characteristic Assignment End of the navigation path.

    • In the Basic Data and Tools menu, choose Start of the navigation path Phrases Next navigation step Edit Phrase Set-to-Attribute Assignments End of the navigation path.

The SAP system lists all characteristics of the value assignment type or all relevant fields of the table.

    Note Note

    End of the note.
  3. Enter the key for the required phrase set in the Phrase Set field for a characteristic or field.

    Note Note

In addition, you can assign a user-defined text type to each characteristic if you have set the Characteristic-Dependent indicator for the user-defined text type in Customizing for Basic Data and Tools (see User-Defined Texts and Documents).

    End of the note.
  4. Confirm and save your entries.
