Using the WWI Wizard for Repeating Groups

Use

You want to insert specific characteristics of a value assignment type (master group) or of additional information (slave group or source) together with the corresponding repeating group. The WWI Wizard supports you in this with the following functions:

  • Creating descriptor symbols for characteristics

  • Generating a heading (description of value assignment type)

  • Setting up data output as a table or list

    Note Note

To generate headings, use the procedure in Editing Descriptor Symbols.

    End of the note.

Prerequisites

See the Prerequisites section under Document Template Layout Editing.

Procedure

  1. Position the cursor at the point in your document template where you want to insert a table or list with the WWI Wizard.

    Note Note

Do not position the cursor within a table. If you have selected text, the selected text will be overwritten by the object that the Wizard generates.

    End of the note.
  2. In the symbol tree, select a value assignment type or additional information (such as value assignment usage or source) to which more characteristics are assigned.

    Note Note

All value assignment types and additional information are marked with the icon .

    End of the note.
  3. Choose with the quick info text Open Wizard.

The WWI Wizard for Repeating Groups dialog box appears. The WWI Wizard lists the relevant characteristic symbols for the selected value assignment type or additional information.

  4. Step 1: Symbol Selection:

    1. You can change the order of the symbols. Select a symbol and choose with the quick info text Move Up or with the quick info text Move Down.

    2. Select the symbols you want to insert in the document template. To do this, set the Selection of Specification or Descriptor Symbols indicator before the required symbols.

    3. If you want to edit a symbol (such as multiple value assignment, message type for mandatory symbol, or expansion mode), select the symbol, choose with the quick info text Edit Symbol, and enter the required data.

    4. The style is taken from the WWI settings; change it if you wish.

    5. Choose Next.

  5. Step 2: Descriptor Selection:

    1. The system automatically searches for each symbol for a symbol of type Descriptor, whose phrase text matches the description of the specification symbol in the symbol tree. The search parameters are taken from the WWI settings.

The search status is displayed as follows:

No descriptors were found for the specification symbol.

More than one descriptor was found for the specification symbol (first descriptor in the hit list is selected).

Exactly one descriptor was found for the specification symbol.

    2. If the system does not find any descriptors, choose with the quick info text Edit Descriptor to start the search dialog for phrases.

Enter search criteria, select a phrase in the hit list, and choose OK to assign the phrase.

    3. The descriptor symbols that were automatically or manually assigned to a specification symbol are marked by the system automatically. All marked descriptors are inserted in the document template for the corresponding specification symbol.

    4. The separator and the style are taken from the WWI settings; change them if you wish.

    5. Choose Next.

  6. Step 3: Value Assignment Type:

    1. If you set the With Instance Control indicator, an MIC repeating group (master group with instance control) is inserted into the report template instead of a repeating group of type M.

    2. Set the With Heading indicator if the value assignment type or additional information selected in the symbol tree is to be output in the document template as a heading.

To assign the descriptor symbol, choose with the quick info text Edit Descriptor. Enter search criteria, select a phrase in the hit list, and choose OK to assign the phrase.

    3. Set the As Table indicator if symbols and descriptors are to be inserted in a table. Otherwise they are inserted as a list in an invisible frame.

The system takes the left column width, separating column width, and frame settings from the WWI settings for the WWI Wizard.

    4. The style is taken from the WWI settings; change it if you wish.

  7. Choose Finish.

The system inserts the symbols as a table or list in the document template, together with the corresponding repeating group. With a list, blank compression also ensures that the descriptor symbols are output only if a value is found for the corresponding specification symbols when the report is generated.

Table rows that are displayed separated in the document template owing to the control characters are joined following generation.

Note Note

For the temperature "20°C <" to be displayed correctly as "<20°C, you must reverse the order of the symbols in the report template. In the WWI Wizard, the order should not be changed because a new line (or table column, see below) is created for each descriptor, so the temperature would be separated from its accuracy.

If you change the order in the WWI Wizard, you must assign a descriptor symbol to the specification symbol for the accuracy, which contains the phrase key for the temperature – and not assign a descriptor symbol to the specification symbol for the temperature.

Layout of Generated Report:

The layout of the generated reports is the same as that of reports created with a master group without instance control. The value assignment instances output on the final reports also depend on the instance control.
