 Synchronizing Fixed Assets and Equipment

Use

You can use the manual assignment of a fixed asset to an equipment master record to ensure the integration of the Asset Accounting (FI-AA) and Plant Maintenance (PM) components through a synchronous creation and changing of equipment and assets.

Prerequisites

In Customizing for Asset Accounting, you have made suitable settings under Start of the navigation path Master Data Next navigation step Automatic Creation of Equipment Master Records. End of the navigation path

For further more comprehensive information, see the Asset Accounting Implementation Guide (IMG) under

  • Define conditions for synchronizing the master data

  • Assign master data fields of assets and equipment

  • Develop enhancement for field- and class-/category assignment

Features

You can set up a process in which the system automatically creates an equipment master record and transfers certain master data fields (for example, company code) when it creates an asset.

If the master data is changed at a later date, then the system automatically updates the fields in the equipment master record.

Furthermore, you can alternatively or additionally set up a Workflow, which is used, for example, to inform a maintenance supervisor when assets are created or changed.

Conversely you can also define that an asset is automatically created when a piece of equipment is created, and that the asset master record is automatically changed when the equipment master record is changed.

For further information on synchronizing fixed assets and equipment, see SAP note 370884.
