 Standard Network

Definition

Project-neutral network structure, which can be used as a template when creating other standard networks or operative networks.

Use

When you create networks from standard networks, you save time and you also increase the consistency of business processes, if different projects consist of the same activities.

You can link standard networks with standard work breakdown structures in order to create project templates, which contain both the project structure and the activities assigned to the structure. When you use a standard network that is linked to a standard WBS to create an operative network, an operative WBS is also created. For more information on standard work breakdown structures, see Standard Work Breakdown Structures (Standard WBS) .

If you want to use assembly processing to create an operative network from a sales order, you need a standard network. The network generated in the background from the sales order is always taken from the standard network to which the material in the sales order is assigned. For more information about assembly processing, see Assembly Processing in the Project System .

If you create an operative network for milestone functions, the system copies the standard network specified in the milestone parameters. For more information, see Milestones .

You can also exchange standard networks using a MPX interface with PC software such as Microsoft Project. For more information, see Project System Interfaces .
