Function documentationSearch

A learner can search courses quickly and easily without browsing the entire course catalog. The learner can search using a keyword search or an advanced search option.

A results list displays a list of courses found. The learner can also display detailed information about the courses from the displayed list of courses. By default, the results list displays 10 results per page. To navigate to different pages, the learner can use the Previous and Next buttons. The learner can also refine the search using the various filter options.

Features

The following are the various features of the search function:

  • Keyword search (Search Term)

The learner can search for courses using a keyword contained in the title, course description, or course content title.

  • Advanced search

The learner can use the Search Filters section in Advanced Search to make more specific searches. The learner can select one or more criteria from the Search Filters section. For example, the learner can search for courses that have a specific prerequisite qualification or courses that have a specific delivery method.

The following are the various criteria available under Search Filters:

    • Free seats only

The system displays the number of seats available for a time-dependent delivery method such as classroom trainings. This criterion is not applicable for time-independent courses, such as, web-based trainings.

    • Free courses

The system displays the courses with no charges. In case of time-dependent courses, the system displays the charges maintained for the course date.

    • Language

By default, the system displays the courses available in various languages. The learner can select the preferred language from the language list. The system sets the selected language as the default language in the search language criteria.

    • Location

By default, the system displays courses for both location-dependent and location-independent courses. The learner can select the preferred location from the list. The system sets the selected location as the default location in the search location criteria. If the location is not selected and the learner’s search criterion consists of a location-independent course, the system displays the courses that have met other criteria. This function considers only location-dependent courses.

    • Time frame

Based on the learner’s selection, the system displays courses available for a particular period of time such as this month, next 2 months, next 3 months, next 6 months, or other time frame selected. For time-dependent delivery methods, the system displays the start date and end date available for the course date. The preview period selected in the settings is set as the default time period.

    • Delivery method

The system displays a list of delivery methods used to impart courses. The learner can select one or more delivery methods from the list to display relevant courses. By default, all the delivery method options are selected.

    • Subject area (Course Group)

The system displays courses relevant to the subject area.

    • Qualifications

The system displays courses based on the criteria specified in the Prerequisites field or Aspired field. Using the value help provided, the learner can select a prerequisite or aspired qualification. The maximum length of the search term is 12 characters.

    • Training needs

The system displays courses based on the criteria specified in the Intended For field or Mandatory For field. Using the value help, the learner can select the Job or Position or Org Unit. The maximum length of the search term is 12 characters.

In the Advanced Search option, the learner can use filters that the learner had selected before initiating the search. Once the search results are shown, the learner can always change one or more filter options and choose Search again to get the corresponding results.

Note Note

If an exact match of the Search Term is found, the matched results are displayed at the top of the list and the rest of the results are sorted and displayed. Sorting of the search results is based on the Delivery Method provided in the search criteria. The system sorts the search results and displays it as follows:

  • If the search criteria consists of time-dependent delivery method, for example “Classroom Training”, the system displays all the classroom courses with course dates in the immediate future at the beginning of the Results List followed by course dates in the later future. The system then sorts the results based on the delivery method and course title.

  • If the search criterion consists of time-independent delivery method, the system sorts the courses based on the delivery method number and course title.

End of the note.
