Every application that uses SAP NetWeaver as its underlying technology platform can use Embedded Search as the technology for basic searches. Embedded Search allows you to search all structured data in an application in a unified way.
Embedded Search contains tools for creating and changing search models.
There are two variants of Embedded Search, for different search technologies and databases.
To run the classic Embedded Search, you need the standalone engine Search and Classification (TREX) or SAP Business Warehouse Accelerator (BWA).
If you are using SAP HANA as the database, you do not need any of the aforementioned technologies.
For more information about the scenarios, see System Landscape Variants.
