Finding Objects with Inherited Characteristics (Example)Locate this document in the navigation structure

Characteristic THREAD_TYPE is assigned to class FASTENERS. When you assign class BOLTS to class FASTENERS, you restrict the allowed values to "metric". This restriction applies to any classes that are subordinate to class BOLTS.

If you use this characteristic to find objects in class BOLTS, or a subordinate class, you can only enter the value "metric" for characteristic THREAD_TYPE.

When you assign classes HEX_BOLTS_1 and HEX_BOLTS_2 to class BOLTS, you restrict the value set for characteristic LENGTH. In class HEX_BOLTS_1, you only classify bolts that are 1-30mm long, and in class HEX_BOLTS_2, you only classify bolts that are 31-100mm long.

If you start searching in class BOLTS and enter a length of 40mm, you only see class HEX_BOLTS_2 in the search result. You can then continue searching in this class with any value from 31-100.
