 Making Settings for Configuration

Use

Two objects used in assembly processing in the Project System can be configured: the standard network and the material. You can use both a configurable material and a configurable standard network in one assembly order.

To use configuration, you assign a configuration profile to the configurable object. This profile contains details about the class to be used.

For information about variant configuration, see the SAP Library for Variant Configuration in Logistics - General (LO-VC) .

Prerequisites

If you want to use configuration, you have to have previously created the characteristics that you want to use in the variant class. For more information, refer to Maintaining Characteristics and Classes for Config .

If both the material and the standard network are configurable, they should be assigned to the same class. If the standard network has not been assigned to a class (it does not have a configuration profile), then the configuration from the material is used. This is also the case, if the class for the standard network is part of the class for the material. Otherwise the characteristic values are assigned separately when the network is created.

To use configuration with a material, you have to have set the Material is configurable indicator on the Basic data view (in the standard system) of the material master.

Procedure

Creating Classes
  1. Choose Start of the navigation path Logistics Next navigation step Centralfunctions Next navigation step Classificationand then Class Next navigation step Create. End of the navigation path

  2. On the initial screen enter the name of the new class and the class type. In the standard system the class type for configuration is 300 throughout the system.

    Note Note

The class system is also used for other purposes in SAP. In such cases other class types are used. For instance, class types 013 and 014 are used for summarization in the Project System.

    End of the note.
  3. Choose Enter and on the next screen enter a description of the class.

  4. Choose Start of the navigation path Goto Next navigation step Characteristics End of the navigation path .

  5. Enter the characteristics that you want to use in this class.

  6. Save and exit.

Creating Configuration Profiles for Materials and Standard Networks

The procedure for creating a configuration profile for standard networks and materials is basically the same.

For Materials

Choose Start of the navigation path Logistics Next navigation step Materials management Next navigation step Material master End of the navigation path and then Start of the navigation path Environment Next navigation step Configuration profile Next navigation step Create End of the navigation path .

For Standard Networks

Choose Start of the navigation path Logistics Next navigation step Projectmanagement Next navigation step Basic data End of the navigation path and then Start of the navigation path Standardstructures Next navigation step Standard network Next navigation step Configuration profile Next navigation step Create. End of the navigation path

In both cases the Select Configurable Object dialog box appears. Make sure that the correct object has been selected, change if necessary.

Note Note

If instead of the dialog box the initial screen for the incorrect object appears (for example, if you want to create a configuration profile for a material and the initial screen for standard networks appears), choose Start of the navigation path Extras Next navigation step Change configurable object. The Select Configurable Object End of the navigation path dialog box appears.

End of the note.

Continue for both objects as follows:

  1. Choose Continue .

  2. Enter the number of the material or the standard network on the initial screen. Choose Enter .

  3. On the next screen enter a name for the profile and the class type 300. You can also restrict the organizational areas in which the profile is valid by making an entry in the Org. areas field.

  4. Choose Start of the navigation path Goto Next navigation step Class allocations End of the navigation path .

  5. Enter the class that you defined previously.

  6. Save your entries.
