 Deleting Unused Workflow Container Elements

Use

In this procedure, you learn how to display a where-used list for workflow container elements and how to delete container elements that are not used.

It is not necessary to delete unused container elements for technical reasons. You are still recommended to delete unused elements, however, so that you have a better overview of the elements that are used in your workflow container.

When the workflow is checked, the system generates the following messages:

Container element <Name> is not used

The reason for this message is as follows:

When you copied the elements for the form scenario to the workflow container, the system created some container elements automatically. When defining the data flow between the workflow container and the task container, you then overwrote some of the container elements with constants. This excluded the workflow container elements from being used.

Container element <Name> is only read and not documented.

You can ignore this message.

Procedure

Call the Workflow Container area in the bottom left.

You see the container elements in the workflow container. You can display a where-used list for all container elements.

Some container elements are listed in gray font, and others in black.

The elements shown in gray font are the ones that belong to the workflow container in the standard.

The container elements listed in black font are the ones inserted by the system during the modeling of your customized workflow.

Display a where-used list for the workflow container elements. Choose from the following options:

Call a list of uses.

Right-click a container element and choose Where-Used List from the context menu. A list with the relevant workflow steps is called in the lower screen area. If a container element is not used in the entire workflow, a message is displayed.

Call the graphical model of the uses.

To do this, call the initial screen of the Workflow Builder . Right-click a container element and choose Where-Used List in Graphic from the context menu.

The workflow steps in which the element is used are selected under Graphical Model . You can access the details of the workflow step by double-clicking on a step in the graphic, or using the list of uses.

Before you display the where-used list in the graphic for another container element, you should click in the graphic so that the selections are deleted.

The following container elements are not used in our example:

PROCESS_OBJECT

The system creates the process object when the workflow template is started. For this purpose, the system has assigned an element of the event container to the workflow container element. The system therefore requires this container element. You cannot delete it.

FORM_SCENARIO_STAGE

The following container elements are not required, since you overwrote the element with a fixed value when defining the data flow of the workflow steps:

BACK_BUTTON_VISIBLE

SAVE_DRAFT_BUTTON_VISIBLE

WITHDRAW_BUTTON_VISIBLE

SEND_VARIATION

Delete the container elements that are not required.

To do this, right-click a container element and choose Delete from the context menu.

Save and activate your workflow template. To do this, choose the Create and Activate Runtime Version function.

The system checks the workflow template before activating it. You can now see that the messages have disappeared from the list.
