Procedure documentationInstalling WWI Generation Servers as Services

Prerequisites

See Prerequisites under EH&S Service Administration.

Procedure

  1. In the Basic Data and Tools menu, choose Start of the navigation path Tools Next navigation step WWI and EH&S Expert Server Administration End of the navigation path.

The system searches dynamically for all EH&S management servers that are logged on to the system and displays the computers as the search results in the navigation tree.

  2. Double-click a computer name.

    • The EH&S management server is called and a list of all WWI and EH&S Expert servers installed in the system is displayed.

    • The application toolbar is shown.

  3. Choose Install WWI Generation Server (Install WWI Generation Server) .

The Service Administration: Install WWI Generation Server dialog box appears.

The WWI Parameters group box contains the data generated by the system for the WWI server and WWI root directory fields and proposed values for the other fields.

    Note Note

The proposed values correspond to the default values in the Customizing activity Check WWI Destinations and Assign Generation Servers.

    End of the note.
  4. In the RFC Parameters group box, use the input help to enter an existing destination for a WWI generation server in the SAP system (see the Customizing activity Set Up RFC Destination in the Configuration of Generation PCs Customizing section).

  5. Confirm your entries.

The system enters the following data:

    • The values for the selected destination in the RFC Parameters group box

    • A generated service key (<destination/system/sequence number) and an editable service name in the General group box

  6. Also change the editable parameters if necessary. Note the following:

    • RFC Parameters group box

Set the Trace indicator if you want to activate logging for the RFC communication between the application server and the service.

    • WWI Parameters group box

When you create a WWI generation server, you have to specify the application for which you want to use the WWI generation server. The settings for the WWI generation server that control the respective usage are then created automatically in the Customizing activities.

If the destinations specified here are different from those destinations defined in Customizing, the system queries whether you want to overwrite the default destination. If you confirm, the entries are overwritten.

  7. Confirm your entries.

The EH&S service administration returns a success message or an error message. Check these messages.

  8. Call up the EH&S management server again.

The service is added at the end of the list.

    Note Note

If multiple synchronous servers are to be set up on different server PCs for one destination, for performance reasons or to protect against failures, you must ensure that the WWI root directory is made the same on all PCs during setup.

    End of the note.

Result

Generation of Required Entries

EH&S service administration generates the following entries:

  • Background Generation: The WWI generation server is used to generate reports in the background or for asynchronous report generation.

    • The RFC destination of the WWI generation server and the WWI root directory are transferred to the Customizing activity Specify Generation Servers.

    • The system checks whether the specified WWI destination is already assigned to the WWI generation server in the Customizing activity Check WWI Destinations and Assign Generation Servers. If this is not the case, the WWI generation server is created in the WWI Destinations view. The WWI generation server with the specified printer is assigned to the WWI destination in the Assignment of WWI Server to the WWI Destination view.

  • Synchronous Generation: The WWI generation server is used for synchronous report generation.

    • Customizing activity Specify Environment Parameters: The values are transferred to the environment parameters WWI_GENSERVER_SYN_DEST (RFC destination of the synchronous WWI server) and WWI_GENSERVER_SYN_ANCHOR (temporary directory of the synchronous WWI server; corresponds to the WWI root directory).

  • Label Generation: The WWI generation server is used for label generation.

    • The RFC destination of the synchronous WWI server and the temporary directory of the synchronous WWI server (corresponds to the WWI root directory) are transferred to the Customizing activity Make Settings for Basic Data.

  • Print Request Generation: The WWI generation server is used to generate print requests for labels.

    • The WWI generation server with the assigned RFC destination and the file format for the print preview are transferred to the Customizing activity Configure WWI Server for Print Request Generation.

  • Entries in the SAPRFC.INI file:

    • Name of logical destination (DEST)

    • Program ID for registration of server (PROGID)

    • Gateway host (GWHOST)

    • Gateway service (GWSERV)

    • Indicator for activation of RFC log (trace)

EH&S Service Administration Functions

Other functions are available for the service created in EH&S service administration (see Features under EH&S Service Administration).

Activation of WWI Generation Server

Once you have installed WWI generation servers (manually or using EH&S service administration), you have to carry out the activity Start WWI Dispatcher in Background in Customizing for Basic Data and Tools to set up the WWI dispatch process for the respective client.

You then need to activate the generation servers in the Product Safety (EHS-SAF) component in the WWI monitor (report management).
