Use

You can use this function to display additional contextual information for a central object or selected object.

Features
  • Provides context-sensitive analytic and supplementary information. The context is defined by the main application.

  • You can access the side panel from your application by choosing Side Panel. You can also use the side panel of the NetWeaver Business Client (NWBC) to display BCV content in the context of SAP GUI transactions. For details, see Configuring BCV for SAP NetWeaver Business Client.

  • The side panel contains the following accordion items:

    • Overview

Displays quick views of query views that you have defined. You can enlarge the query views that the quick views represent in the view area for further analysis. You can refresh the selected content to receive the latest data. You can also personalize the appearance of quick views.

For more information about defining overviews, see Definition of Overview.

    • Query Views

Displays the list of query views you have defined for the specific business object you are working with, the SAP predefined query views for the specific business object, and the list of last used query views.

You can group query views in the side panel according to the subject-based groups that you defined in Customizing, under Start of the navigation path Cross-Application Components Next navigation step Processes and Tools for Enterprise Applications Next navigation step Business Context Viewer Next navigation step User Interface Next navigation step Define Subject Groups End of the navigation path. To group query views according to subject groups in the side panel, choose Start of the navigation path Option menu of tray Next navigation step Subject-Based View End of the navigation path. To switch to hierarchical view, choose Hierarchical View.

For more information about query views, see Query View.

For more information about defining query views, see Definition of Query Views.

For more information about defining a query view hierarchy, see Definition of Query View Hierarchies.

    • Dashboards

Displays a list of dashboards, and a list of last used dashboards. A dashboard displays information about the specified business object in a single page, allowing you to compare different data, and easily share information.

For more information about dashboards, see Dashboard.

For more information about defining dashboards, see Definition of Dashboards.

    • Favorites

Displays your favorite query views and favorite dashboards. You can assign query views and dashboards to favorites in the configuration center, or through the context menu (alternate mouse click) from a query view, dashboard list, or last-used list, or through the Functions pushbutton in the view area, or in the dashboard itself.

    • Launchpad

Displays the launchpad applications available with the current context key and user role. For more information about launchpads, see Definition of Launchpads.

    • Drill-Down

Contrary to the other accordion items, you can display the Drill-Down accordion item only in the side panel of the BCV main view. The reason for this is that only if a main view is visible, can a drill-down be executed, and only in this case is it necessary to show a hierarchical list of drill-down query views that you can use to navigate between the corresponding query views.

  • You can lock the contents of the side panel by choosing Lock. If you lock the side panel, the system does not transfer changes in the application to the side panel. This means that if you display a new business object in the application, the side panel does not get updated with information about this new business object.
