Employees can use this application to request leave, or other absences or attendances. They can also use this application for absences that do not require approval, for example, sick leave, to inform their manager that they will be absent for a certain time period. Employees can change or delete submitted leave requests or absences that have already been stored in the database, if necessary.
If the concurrent employment function has been activated, employees can record or edit a leave for the relevant personnel assignment when they start the application.
You can use this Create Leave Request
application only if your employees enter their own leave requests in Employee Self-Service. It is not suitable if time administrators record absences on behalf of employees.
Several reports are available in the back-end system to control the processing. The reports send e-mails to employees to notify them of the status of their leave request. Approvers and time administrators are notified of leave requests that they have to process. You can schedule the
reports as a periodic background process. If you want to use SAP Business Workflow
, the same reports are processed with the corresponding workflow tasks. For more information about the workflow, see General

You have integrated the applications with the relevant portal pages. For more information, see the documentation for Employee Self-Service (ESS) and Manager Self-Service (MSS):

(0105) infotype for all employees:
Specified the system user name in the System User Name SAP System (SY-UNAME)
(0001) subtype.

to manage your employees' time data.

To enable the Attachment
function for a leave request, see Customizing for Employee Self-Service (Web Dynpro ABAP)

To define the leave types for which an attachment is mandatory, the document type allowed, and the maximum size of document allowed for a leave request, you can make the settings in Customizing for Leave Request

Employees can do the following to plan and record their absences:
Attach a document to a leave request
Search for an approver using the enhanced search feature. Employees can also add or delete an approver from the list of multiple approvers, and change the sequence of approvers.
Cross reference their desired periods of leave against other team members' leave. This feature also exists as a standalone application in Manager Self-Service. For more information, see Team Calendar.
View their requested and confirmed absences for a three-month period in theCalendar
View their absences and track the status of their requests in the Leave Overview
Cancel, shorten, or lengthen absences by selecting the relevant absence from the Leave Overview
in the Team Calendar
or Calendar
View their absence entitlements and attendance approvals using the Time Accounts
feature. Employees can check their remaining entitlement before requesting a new leave. This feature also exists as a standalone application called View
Time Account Balances.

The information displayed in the Team Calendar, Leave Overview
, and Time Accounts
is only updated after an employee has submitted a leave request.
