 Character Standard

The SAP system uses ISO character standards. With a transfer file that was written, for example, in ISO-Latin1, a data conversion on import is not necessary.

You must enter the following values for the +SC parameter in the administrative section of the transfer file (see Example: Transfer File for Phrases, for example):

  • If the transfer file exists in the format of the SAP (ISO) code pages used in the SAP system, enter the value ISO-R/3. The data is not converted on import.

  • If the transfer file exists in Microsoft code page format, enter the value MS-NT . The data is converted from Microsoft code page format to SAP(ISO) code page format.

When exporting, the environment parameter value EXPORT_CHARACTER_NORM that you specified in Customizing for Basic Data and Tools under Specify Environment Parameters controls the format in which the transfer file exists:

  • If you have entered the value ISO-R/3, the transfer file is created in the format of SAP(ISO) code pages that are used in the SAP system and no conversions are performed.

  • If you have entered the value MS-NT, the transfer file is created in Microsoft code page format and the data is converted from the format of the SAP(ISO) code pages used in the SAP system to Microsoft code page format.

When exporting, the SAP system automatically enters the environment parameter value EXPORT_CHARACTER_NORM in the transfer file for the +SC parameter.

Caution Caution

You must use EH&S Native Language Support in order for the system to perform the conversions described when importing and exporting. This means that you must have set the environment parameter MULTI_CODEPAGE_SUPPORT in Customizing for Basic Data and Tools under Specify Environment Parameters.

If you are not using EH&S NLS and your EH&S data is on the database in Microsoft code page format, you must not set the environment parameter MULTI_CODEPAGE_SUPPORT. Data is therefore neither converted when being imported or exported.

End of the caution.
