Locking of Objects in the Workbench

Use

When editing objects in the workbench, you can choose between the following locking concepts:

  • You can specify that you can open and change more than one object in edit mode without the system switching to display mode. The system then locks each open object for other users. The objects remain locked until you save your changes. When you save, the system saves all changes to all open objects and unlocks all objects except for the object you currently have open. For this locking concept, you can also specify that a dialog box with a save prompt appears when you have changed an object and want to open another object. This enables you to reduce the number of locked objects because your users are forced to save more frequently.

In this locking concept, you can personalize the workbench so it opens automatically in edit mode.

    Note Note

This documentation assumes that you use this locking concept and have set up your workbench so that it opens in edit mode.

    End of the note.
  • You can specify that you can only ever open and change one object in edit mode. Independent of your personal workbench settings, the workbench always opens in display mode in this locking concept and the system opens each object in edit mode first. You have to switch to edit mode to be able to edit an object. Only then does the system lock the object for other users. If you open a different object, the previous object is no longer in edit mode. If you changed the previous object, a dialog box with a save prompt appears. When the system opens the new object, it removes the lock on the previous object.

Since the system only ever locks one object per user and session in this locking concept, the concept is particularly suitable for cases where numerous users are working simultaneously in the workbench.

Prerequisites

You specify which locking concept is active in Customizing for the Workbench in the IMG activity Set Up Workbench .
