Symbol Keys of Standard Characteristics

The symbol key that the system generates for a standard characteristic contains the following:

A part of the class key (see Nomenclature of Standard Class Keys )

A part of the characteristic key (see Nomenclature of Standard Characteristic Keys )

Two characters from the specific part of the characteristic key:

If the specific part contains an underscore, the system uses the first letter and the first letter after the underscore (AB_CD=>AC).

If the specific part does not contain an underscore, the system uses the first two characters.

Symbol Keys for Table Fields, Structure Fields, and Non-Standard Characteristics

Symbol keys that you generated with a master data matchup also start with aG. The rest of the key is made up as follows:

The symbol keys for table fields consist of the first four characters of the table key and the first five characters of the field key.

Tables in the SAP component specification management begin with EST (ESTRI, ESTVH). The symbol key for the IDENT field is thus GESTRIDENT (symbol key for identifier).

The symbol keys for value assignment types consist of the first four characters of the class key and the first five characters of the characteristic key.

If two symbols with identical keys result, the system replaces the final character with a digit.

Parameter symbol keys that are supplied with the system start withE. EH&S version symbols (symbol type 99) start withV. V and E symbols are protected in customer systems and cannot be changed there.
