The System Log

SAP NetWeaver Application Server (SAP NetWeaver AS) ABAP logs all system errors, warnings, user locks due to failed logon attempts from known users, and process messages in the system log.

The system log is a framework to collect and log messages from applications. The system log is a ring buffer. When the log file reaches its maximum size, the system overwrites the oldest data.

Use Display the system log (transaction SM21) to access the system log output screen. With this transaction, you can read any of the messages that are contained in the system logs. You can modify the view as needed.

Applications prioritize their messages according to the following severity levels:

• Very high priority
• High priority
• Warning
• Information

You can configure Display the system log (transaction SM21) to either show only messages of very high priority or all messages.

You can change the messages in Edit System Log and Security Audit Log Messages (transaction SE92).

CCMS Monitoring provides a monitor for the system log.
