Analysis FunctionsLocate this document in the navigation structure

Use

When you start the BEx Analyzer, the BEx Analyzer menu and two toolbars are displayed in Microsoft Excel. You access analysis functions using the analysis toolbar (BEx Analysis Toolbox) and the BEx Analyzer menu. All the functions available in the toolbar are also available in the menu.

Note

You can toggle the display of the analysis toolbar in Microsoft Excel by choosing View → Toolbars → BEx Analysis Toolbox.

Features

Open

You can open workbooks or queries in the BEx Analyzer. The Open tool has two submenus. The open option is displayed in the BEx Analyzer menu.

  • To open a query, choose Open → Open Query in the analysis toolbar, or BEx Analyzer → Open Query in the menu.
  • To open a workbook, choose Open → Open Workbook in the analysis toolbar, or BEx Analyzer → Open Workbook in the menu.

Save

You can save workbooks or views in the BEx Analyzer, either under existing names or with new names. The Save tool has three submenus, and three save options are displayed in the BEx Analyzer menu:

  • To save a workbook, choose Save → Save Workbook in the analysis toolbar, or BEx Analyzer → Save Workbook in the menu.
  • To save a workbook with a new name, choose Save → Save Workbook As in the analysis toolbar, or BEx Analyzer → Save Workbook As in the menu.
  • Choose Save → Save View in the analysis toolbar to save the current navigational state (view) of the data provider that is assigned to the design item in the current active cell.

Refresh / Pause Automatic Refresh

You use this toggle function to control the refresh status (to enable or disable the request of current valid data from the server):

  • To activate the update (that is, to request the current valid data from the server), choose Refresh in the analysis toolbar, or BEx Analyzer → Refresh in the menu.
  • If you already activated the refresh function and want to pause automatic refreshing for the current valid data, choose Pause Automatic Refresh in the analysis toolbar, or BEx Analyzer → Pause Automatic Refresh in the menu.

Changing Variable Values

You can change the variable values in your query:

  • In the analysis toolbar, choose Change Variable Values or in the menu, choose BEx Analyzer → Change Variable Values.

Tools

Using the Tools function and its submenu, you can start other tools from within the BEx Analyzer:

  • To start the BEx Query Designer, choose Tools → Create New Query in the analysis toolbar, or BEx Analyzer → Tools → Create New Query in the menu.
  • To precalculate and distribute workbooks with the BEx Broadcaster, choose Tools → BEx Broadcaster in the analysis toolbar, or BEx Analyzer → Tools  → BEx Broadcaster in the menu.

Global Settings

You can configure global settings. These are settings that are applied to the entire application and not just to specific workbooks.

  • Choose Global Settings in the analysis toolbar or BEx Analyzer → Global Settings in the menu.

Context Menu for Selected Cell (Menu Only)

If you cannot use the secondary mouse button, you can access the context menu (with which you can execute OLAP functions, access item properties, or delete items) from the menu:

  • In the menu, choose BEx Analyzer →   Context Menu for Selected Cell.

Design Toolbar (Menu Only)

The functions that are available in the design toolbar are also available in the BEx Analyzer menu:

  • In the menu, choose BEx Analyzer  → Design Toolbar, and the submenu option that corresponds to the tool you want.

Connect / System Information

You can use this toggle function to connect to a system, display system information, and disconnect from a system:

  • To connect to a system, choose Connect in the analysis toolbar, or BEx Analyzer → Connect in the menu.
  • If you are already connected to a system and want to display system information, which also allows you to disconnect from a system, choose System Information in the analysis toolbar, or BEx Analyzer → System Information in the menu.

You can display the splash screen for the BEx Analyzer:

  • In the menu, choose BEx Analyzer → About.
