Use

In the Properties dialog box of the structure, you can change the description of a structure, configure settings for the visibility of structure elements and view information about the technical name of the structure.

Tab Page: General

Description

The name of the structure appears automatically here. You can overwrite this text if you want to.

Use Standard Text: If you select this setting, the default value will always be used. In this case, the default value is Key Figures for key figure structures and Structure for characteristic structures.

Technical Name

If the structure has been saved as a reusable structure, the technical name of the structure is displayed here, and you cannot change this technical name.

You can enter a technical name for local structures. This is optional.

Caution

The technical name must be unique for all queries.

Note

For access from external interfaces (such as Crystal Reports, from URLs or using OLE DB for OLAP), a technical name is required for structures, since the structure is considered a table field and has to be uniquely accessible. If you do not enter a technical name, the unique ID (UID) is used for access from external interfaces to uniquely identify the structure. As the UID has 25 characters however, problems can arise when modifying queries.

You can also change the technical name. If you do this however, a warning appears informing you that the references could be destroyed if the structure is used in external interfaces.

Apply Zero Row/Column Suppression to This Structure

If you have made a setting for zero row/column suppression in the query properties, this setting is not transferred automatically to the structures that you use in the query. If you want to suppress rows or columns that contain zeros for this structure, select Apply Zero Row/Column Suppression to This Structure.

For more information about the setting options for Suppressing Zero Rows/Columns, see Query Properties.

Visibility of structure elements

The default setting is Standard (setting of structure element). This means the system applies the setting that is configured on the structure element; every structure element is therefore either visible or not visible.

If you choose the option Switchable Using Standard Variable, the system displays an input variable at runtime; at least one value must be entered but multiple single values can also be entered. The variable displays the structure text. The variable is preset for all structure elements, which have the the property always show (on the Representation tab of the relevant structure element).

All structure elements - which have the property always show or hide (can be shown) on the Representation tab of the structure element property) - can be entered.

Note

If you choose the option Switchable Using Standard Variable, the following prerequisite should be met: every structure element of this structure on the General tab of the property of the relevant structure element must have been given a unique technical name. This technical name is displayed in the variables screen. If you do not specify a technical name, the UID of the structure element is displayed (see Extended tab).

The structure elements specified for the variable are visible in the query result. All other elements are not visible. However you can dynamically change the visibility in the usual way.

Tab Page: Advanced

UID

This field displays the unique ID (UID) that is used for unique identification. This field is for information purposes only. You can use the UID in URLs of the Web API to address this element for example. However, we recommend using technical names because UIDs can change when an object is deleted and then re-created.

Activities

Select a structure. The properties dialog box for the structure appears in the Properties screen area. You can also select multiple structures and properties simultaneously. If you enter an invalid value, a warning is displayed next to the property, and the system displays a message to help you resolve the error.

The Technical Names function allows you to show or hide the technical names of the query components (such as InfoObjects, structures, variables). By clicking the arrow to the right of this function, you can choose between display types Text, (Key) Text, Text (Key), and (Key)

To save your settings, choose Start of the navigation path Query Next navigation step Save End of the navigation path.

If you want to change the properties of a reusable structure, select it and choose Display/Change in the Properties screen area. To save your settings, choose Save.
