BW Search AdministrationLocate this document in the navigation structure

In BW Search maintenance, you can make various settings. These are optional and to some extent only intended for use by SAP SE support employees.

Context

You can use BW Search without making any configurations of your own.

Procedure

  1. Call BW Search maintenance (transaction RSOSM). The General Information screen appears.
    Table 1: General Information
    Information Description
Overall Status Indicates whether or not BW Search is active.
Status of the Shared Buffer Indicates whether the shared buffer is completely available, partially available or not available at all.
    • The shared buffer is completely available if all data required for performance of a search query or generated when a search query is performed, is written to the application server's shared buffer. If called up on multiple occasions, this improves the performance of BW Search.
    • The shared buffer is partially available if only the metadata of the TLOGO objects is written to the buffer. You can find an overview of what information this is by choosing Configure BW Search. Note that partial storage of data in the shared buffer can impair performance, as the system has to read the non-buffered data from the database.
    • The shared buffer is not available. The system reads all of the data from the database. Note that this can impair performance of the search.
SAP HANA Package Indicates the SAP HANA package that contains the views.
Maintained TLOGO Objects By choosing , you can display all TLOGO objects that the system supports for BW Search.
Active TLOGO Objects By choosing , you can display all TLOGO objects that the system evaluates for BW Search.
Total Number of Views Total number of views in the SAP HANA database
Metadata Views The number of metadata views. For technical reasons, this number does not reflect the number of maintained TLOGO objects and is somewhat higher.
Where-Used List Views The number of where-used list views. For technical reasons, this number does not reflect the number of maintained TLOGO objects and is somewhat higher.
  2. If you want to make any of these settings manually, choose the relevant button under General Information:
    Option Description
    Configure BW Search
    • SAP HANA Package You can set a package other than the standard package to contain the views in the SAP HANA database.
    • Time for Buffer Check (in Seconds): You can set how much time should elapse before the system checks for views in the SAP HANA database. If the system does not find any views, it generates them.
    • Status of the Shared Buffer By choosing , you can have the buffer filled again.
    • The following settings allow you to resrict the amount of information written to the shared buffer. If the shared buffer is only partially available, we recommend reducing the amount of data to be buffered following the order of your list from top to bottom:
      • Write Processed Entry to Shared Buffer
      • Write Generated SQL Statetments to Shared Buffer
      • Write Generated Field List to Shared Buffer
      • Write Generated Result Tables to Shared Buffer
    Configure Association Types

Only SAP Support is able to create or modify assocation types.

    Configure TLOGO Object

Once you have selected the required TLOGO object, the General Information screen appears.

    • To configure the TLOGO object's metadata, choose Configure Metadata.

As the metedata is pre-confgured, most options on the next screen are only intended for use by SAP Support.

The only option of interest for most users is adding new fields to tables, and setting how these fields should be weighted in the search result:

      1. Choose Configure Table Fields.
      2. Choose New Entries.
      3. Select the TLOGO object from the TLOGO column. You can use input help for this.
      4. Select the required table alias from the Table Alias column. You can use input help for this.
      5. Select the required field name from the Field Name in Table column. You can use input help for this.
      6. Select the required field name from the Field Name in View column.
      7. Define whether the new table field should be activated for the exact search and fuzzy search.
      8. Return to the table view. Define how the new field should be weighted in the view.

You can also change the weighting of existing fields. In the standard setting, the threshold value for the fuzzy search is 0.8, while the ranking weighting for the exact search is 0.5. The technical name is an exception to this, as it is set to 1.0 in the exact search.

      9. Save your changes.
    • To configure the SAP HANA views belonging to the TLOGO object, choose Configure SAP HANA Views. On the next screen, you can cause the current views in the SAP HANA database to be made available again or deleted. If you delete a view, it will be regenerated during the next search query and stored in the package defined in BW Search administration, if one has been defined.

    Caution

Once you have modified and activated a TLOGO object, choose in order to refresh the application.
