Defining the Target Source SystemLocate this document in the navigation structure

Use

In a system where you want to activate the content or from which you want to transport or export objects to a target system, there can be one or more relevant source system for one source system-specific object. In the target system for the transport, there can also be one or more relevant source systems for a BW object that was created in the original system for one given source system. The following sections describe how you can make sure that the source system-dependent objects for all relevant target source systems are transported into the target system or activated in the target system.

Procedure

At Import

To transport source-system-specific BW objects, you have to maintain the mapping table RSLOGSYSMAP in the target system of the transport.

One or more target source systems are assigned to the original source system in the table. An original source system is generally the OLTP development system. The respective Target Source System is the OLTP system connected to the BW target system. The source system-dependent BW objects are converted during "import postprocessing" step during the transport using mapping tables.

  1. Call the mapping table.

    • The Data Warehousing Workbench: Transport Connection screen is displayed in the target system of the transport.

Choose Conversion with quick info Conversion of Log. System Name.

    • The Data Warehousing Workbench: Modeling screen is displayed in the target system of the transport.

Choose Start of the navigation path Tools Next navigation step Convert Logical System Names End of the navigation path.

    • You can also maintain the view V_RSLOGSYSMAP in the target system of the transport in transaction SM30 (view maintenance).

The View: Conversion of Source System Names after the Transport screen appears.

The assignments that were already created are displayed in the mapping table.

  2. To get to the New Entries: Overview of Added Entries screen, select New Entries. Specify the required logical system for the source systems before and after the transport. For the target source system, you can select a logical system name using input help, or create a new value.

    Caution

Only one target source system can be specified for the source-system-dependent 3.x objects for each original source system. Make sure that the indicator only 7.0 is not set in the corresponding table entry.

You can evaluate multiple target source systems for the following object types during the import:

    • DataSource (RSDS)

    • Transformation (TRFN)

    • Data Transfer Process (DTPA)

    • InfoPackage (ISIP)

Set the indicator only 7.0 for all other target source systems for an original source system.

Result

During import postprocessing, the target source systems specified here for an original source system are evaluated and the source system-dependent objects for assigned target source systems are copied.

During Export and During Content Activation

To be able to copy source system-dependent objects to the active version, the target source system or target source systems must be selected when the objects are collected.

Note

Unlike the transport, the evaluation of multiple selected source systems to import transport requests in the target system is provided for each source system-dependent object.

The Data Warehousing Workbench: BI Content screen is displayed.

  1. Choose the Source System Assignment.

The Choose Source System by Default? dialog box appears.

  2. Select one or more source systems by setting the corresponding indicators in the Default Assignment column.

If you do not select a source system, all source systems are automatically selected.

You can change your selection later using the Source System Assignment function.

    Note

Only ever select the source systems that you really need, otherwise you may have to wait unnecessarily when objects are collected.

Note that when you collect source system-dependent objects, the corresponding DataSources must be available in the selected source system and must match this source system depending on your BI Content release type. You must therefore make sure that the metadata was already replicated for the selected source systems.

    Caution

You must therefore make sure that the metadata was already replicated for the assigned source systems. This is necessary in order to create the necessary delivery versions for source system-dependent objects.

Result

When you copy content to the active version, only those objects that are assigned to the selected source systems are collected. Objects that have not been assigned to the specified source systems are ignored.
