Activating Master DataLocate this document in the navigation structure

Use

When you update data from an SAP system, attributes are imported in an inactive state. The new attributes must be activated before you can access them in reporting and analysis.

More information: Versioning Master Data

Texts are active immediately and are available for reporting and analysis purposes. You do not need to activate them manually.

Prerequisites

Attributes and texts have already been loaded into the BW system.

Procedure

General Procedure

Upon activation there are two scenarios to choose from:

If you are already using the available master data in InfoCubes in aggregates, you cannot activate master data records individually. In this case, proceed as follows:

  1. In the menu, choose Start of the navigation path Tools Next navigation step Hierarchy/Attribute Change... End of the navigation path.

  2. Execute the change run.

More information: System Response to Changes to Master Data and Hierarchies

The system now automatically restructures and activates the master data and its aggregates.

    Note

Please note that this process can take several hours if the volume of data is relatively high. Therefore, you should simultaneously activate all of the characteristics that are affected by changes to their master data, at regular intervals.

If the master data is not used in aggregates, proceed as follows:

  1. In the InfoObject tree, choose Activate Master Data from the context menu for your characteristic. The master data is activated and is available immediately for reporting and analysis.

You are using an SAP HANA database.

If you are using a SAP HANA database, you can activate master data when data is loaded, as aggregates cannot be in use during this process. Proceed as follows:

  1. In the DTP for your InfoObject, go to the Update tab and select the Activate Master Data flag.
