Configurations in the SAP Source System

Procedure

  1. To create an SAP system with the API service as the source system, choose Create in the context menu of the SAP folder in the source system of the Data Warehousing Workbench.

To create a different BI system as the source system, choose Create in the context menu of the BI folder in the source system of the Data Warehousing Workbench.

  2. If the destination already exists for the SAP source system, select the destination.

Note that the destination name has to correspond to the logical name of the source system that you created in the Customizing of the source system, in the step Define Logical System.

  3. If no destination exists, enter the server name information from the source system.

    Example

    Application server: pswdf090

    System ID: IDF

    System number: 90

  4. Enter a password for the background user in the source system and confirm this in the next input row. If the user already exists in the source system, enter the valid password.

  5. Enter the password that you defined for the BW background user in the Implementation Guide under Start of the navigation path SAP NetWeaver Next navigation step Business Warehouse Next navigation step Automated Processes Next navigation step Create User for Background Processes End of the navigation path and confirm the password.

  6. Choose Apply. You get to the remote login in the source system.

  7. Select the relevant clients and logon as a system administrator. First make sure that you have the authority to create users and RFC destinations.

If no RFC destination exists with the logical name (of the BW system) that you created in the Customizing of the BW system in the step Define Logical System, the RFC destination for BW is now automatically created in the source system. In addition, the background user is automatically created if it does not exist in the source system. Profiles (S_BI-WX_RFC) are also assigned automatically to users. If the user already exists in the source system, check the accuracy of the profile

If no RFC destination exists in BW for the source system, the destination is automatically created with the information read from the source system.

The ALE settings, which are needed for the communication between a BW system and an SAP source system, are created in the background with the created destinations. These settings are made in BW as well as in the source system. The BW settings for the new link are created in BW.

This is automatically activated when the source system is created. The system performs connection tests for both destinations. When you activate the source system, you can specify whether the metadata of the source system should be replicated. More information: Replication of DataSources If you replicate the metadata of the source system, the switches of the business functions available in the switch framework of the source system are also replicated. The switches control the visibility of query parts in Business Content queries. For more information, see Replicating Switches.
