Searching in the MetadataLocate this document in the navigation structure

In BW Search, you can either search for the metadata of a particular object or view the metadata of all objects in your system.

Procedure

  1. Call BW Search (transaction RSOS_SEARCH).
  2. Formulate your search query.
    • Enter the exact term that you want the system to search for.
    • To refine your search, choose . This step is optional.
      1. Under Advanced Options, you can further define which metadata of the TLOGO object to search through.
        • Search in Technical Name: The system searches in the technical name of all existng TLOGO objects in accordance with your search query. This is the default option.
        • Search in Description: The system searches in the description of all existing TLOGO objects in accordance with your search query. This is the default option.
        • Search in Used Objects: The system searches in all objects used by a TLOGO object in accordance with your search query.
          Note

If the object is an InfoCube for example, the system searches in all InfoObjects in the InfoCube in question.

        • Search in TLOGO Objects: You can select one or more TLOGO objects here. If you leave this field empty, the system searches in all TLOGO objects maintained and activated for BW Search on the SAP HANA database, in accordance with your search query.
        • Search in Object Attributes: In addition to the attributes Technical Name and Description, which you can make available by selecting the corresponding checkboxes, you can specify special TLOGO object-related attributes, which the system searches in in accordance with your search query. The question of which object attributes are available depends on which TLOGO objects you search in. You can use input help to specify the field names.
        • Objekt Version: You can restrict your search to objects with a certain version. In the default setting, active is selected.
        • Object Status: You can restrict your search to objects with a certain status. In the default setting, active, executable is selected.
        • Association Type: Certain TLOGO objects use a generic store in order to store the usage of other objects. This includes all TLOGO objects supporting the XREF setting, for example CompositeProviders (TLOGO HCPR) and local CompositeProviders (TLOGO COPR). The system supports various association types (Objects Dependent, Objects Used, Receive Data from, Send Data to, Others). In the default setting, Dependent Objects is selected.
      2. Under Technical Settings, you can refine the result set.
        • Display Results from <i> to <n>: You can define a range for the result display. From the ensuing result, the system then only displays results that are in the specified range. If you do not specify a range, the system will display all results.
        • Search Method: You can define a search method.
          • Exact Search
          • Fuzzy Search
          • Pattern Search (SQL Like). This is the default option.
          • No Search Method
        • Activity: You can select an activity (Create Object, Display Object, Change Object, Delete Object). In the default setting, Display Objects is selected.

If you select an activity here, the system performs the search and checks whether you can perform the required activity for the search results. This only displays objects that you have the corresponding authorization for.

        • Show SQL Statement: The system shows the SQL statement generated before the search query starts.
        • Show Message Log: The system always shows the message log, even if no warnings or errors occur during execution of the search query.
        • Regenerate Views on Errors: If you select this option, the system does not abort immediately if errors occur while calling the result set. The system tries to regenerate all required views in the SAP HANA database instead, so as to be able to execute the search query again. If calling the results fails again regenerating the required views, the process aborts.
        • Bypass Buffer: If you choose this option, the system does not use the application buffer. Note that this can impair performance of the search. To enhance performance, the application otherwise stores data in the buffer. This includes generated SQL strings, processed and corrected user input and information about the required SAP HANA views.
  3. To start the search, choose (Search Metadata) or .

If you have made any settings under Advanced Options, the system hides these as soon the search results are available.

Once the search is completed, you can call the technical information:
    • If you press , the Display Time Measurements popup appears. This runtime information can be used by SAP for support purposes.
    • If you press , the Log Display popup appears. Provided that the search returns rovides results, any messages displayed during the search are hidden. You can read all messages again here. This is particularly useful if the search returns fewer results than expected, for example because authorizations are required for certain TLOGO objects, and the user does not have these authorizations.

The system displays the list with the search results in Results. By double-clicking on an object, you can call the display for this object or, if you have selected this, another activity for this object.
