Use

This function allows users to fill variables with user-specific values and to save user-specific start views for Web applications.

Prerequisites
  • Activation in Customizing

Before you can use personalization, you must first activate it in Customizing. See the SAP implementation guide (IMG) (SAP Customizing  Implementation Guide → SAP NetWeaverSAP Business Warehouse → Settings for Reporting and Analysis → General Settings for Reporting and Analysis → Activate Personalization in BEx).

Once you activated personalization in the IMG of the SAP Business Warehouse you can no longer deactivate it.

  • Setting Web item parameters

To use the personalization for start views of Web applications, you must first activate the relevant Web template property by setting the Use Personalization parameter (USE_PERSONALIZATION) in Web Application Designer (seeWeb Template Parameters).

    Note

If you want to make personalization available in the context menu at the runtime for a Web application, select the Personalizeparameter (MENU_PERSONALIZE) in the Context Menu Web item (seeContext Menu).

From a technical perspective, bookmarks are generated when Web applications are personalized. The bookmark data is stored in tables RSWR_DATA and RSWR_DATA_XREF. The personalization data is stored in table RSWR_PERS.

Features

Personalization in BEx covers the following areas:

  • When you personalize variables, you assign a permanent user-specific value to them; this value cannot be changed during query navigation.

Variables can be personalized as follows:

    • By the user at runtime in the BEx Analyzer. For more information, seePersonalizing Variables
    • By the user at runtime in BEx Analyzer Web Application Designer. For more information, seePersonalizing Variables in Web Applications
    • By the administrator loading files or using generic DataSources (see Customizing Extractors which you can access from the SAP Easy Access Menu by choosing Administration → Data Warehousing Workbench: Administration → Source Systems → SAP Source System Context Menu → Customizing Extractors).
    • By using the supplied DataSources within BI Content (see the documentation, for example, from the Financials area of BI Content: BI Content → Financials → Web Cockpits in Financials → Queries → Personalization of Characteristic Values in BI (Web Cockpit)).
  • Bypersonalizing the start views of Web applications, you can save a user-specific navigational state in Web applications as a personalized start view of the Web application.
