Function documentationMigration Process Tree

The migration process tree consists of a list of activities relevant to a particular migration solution.

The TDMS process structure helps you execute the activities in a TDMS migration package and track the activity status. The activities are organized in phases required for a successful data transfer and post-transfer processing.

The migration process tree enables a successful completion of the migration package by allowing you to execute the activities in the required order.

Prerequisites

You have created a migration package after creating a migration project.

Features

You can view information related to batch processing by choosing Package -> Batch Processing (tab page). There you can find the following tab pages:

The General Settings tab page

Here you can limit the number of jobs to be used in your package on each system of your system landscape (such as the central, control, receiver and sender systems).

The parameter Maximum Number of Jobs for Package describes the upper limit for the number of jobs for your package in one system. As soon as this number of jobs is reached, no further jobs are scheduled for this package in the respective system. You set this number for each participating system in the Target Specific Settings.

Both settings depend on the available system resources as well as on the settings you make on the Detailed Settings tab page.

The Detailed Settings tab page

Here you define the number of jobs to be used for each phase and activity. No value must be higher than the value defined in Default Settings.

The parameter Default Number of Jobs describes the number of jobs to be used if no setting is made for the activity or the phase.

Only those phases and activities are shown in the table for which a setting has already been made. You can adjust the number of jobs for those phases and activities directly within the table.

You add a new setting for a phase or an activity by choosing the Insert pushbutton. A new line without entries is added to the table.

If a phase and the respective number of jobs is provided without an explicit activity this number applies to all activities which are assigned to the phase.

If a phase, an activity and the respective number of jobs is provided this number applies to the provided activity exclusively.

You delete settings for a phase or an activity from the table by selecting the respective line and choosing the Delete pushbutton. In this case, the default number of jobs is valid for the phase and the respetive. activity again.

The Auto-Restart tab page

Here you enable or disable the auto-restart-feature for your package and its activities. The Auto-Restart tracks the selected activities and restarts them in case of a termination. The Enable Auto-Restart check box describes the state of the feature. If you want to use Auto-Restart, you need to enable this check box, otherwise the settings made for your activities are not considered.

Only those activities are shown in the table for which a setting has already been made. You can adjust the setting for those activities directly in the table. You add a new setting for an activity by choosing the Insert pushbutton. A dialog box appears, where you can enter the phase and the activity for which you want to define the setting.

You can define the following settings for each activity:

  • Active: You can activate or deactivate the Auto-Restart for the activity.

  • Frequency of restart: If the Auto-Restart determines that the activity is aborted or finished with errors it restarts the activity after the time you can specify with this parameter. A higher value avoids system load and increases the chance that temporary system problems are solved but means longer runtime.

  • Max number times of restart allowed: With this parameter you specify how many times the activity shall be restarted in case of errors or in case of abortions.

  • Frequency of refresh: With this parameter you specify the frequency of status refreshes. An higher value avoids system load but means a longer time until an abortion is determined.

  • Frequency of rerun: With this parameter you can specify the frequency of a restart of an activity although it is still running. This can be done only for activities which supports this function. During the rerun the respective activity checks if it can use more jobs or if any process is on hold and can be restarted.

You delete settings for an activity from the table by selecting the respective line and choosing the Delete pushbutton. In this case, the Auto-Restart is disabled for the respective activity.

Activities

  • You can view information related to the migration package and to each activity in the migration process tree. The following information about the activity is always visible:

    • Activity status

    • Progress percentage of the activity

    • Activity log information

    • Number of executions of the activity

  • In addition, you can choose to view the following information for an activity:

    • Runtime information

    • Performance information

    • Activity documentation

    • Activity troubleshooter

  • You can add users to or remove users from the list of authorized users for the execution of the migration package.

  • You can view status information for the systems participating n the migration.

  • You can assign a specific number of background and dialog jobs for the TDMS run. You can specify the jobs at the system level and at the phase level.

  • You can specify the frequency for the auto-restart of an activity.
