You assign a system landscape to a TDMS project during a TDMS data transfer.

To enable the TDMS data transfer, your system landscape must contain the following systems:

  • Sender System

    The sender system is the source system for the supply of data in the migration process. This is usually the production system.

  • Central System

    The central system stores the settings and Customizing for the setup of the non-production system.

  • Control System

    You can use the control system to trigger and monitor activities belonging to the TDMS process tree.

  • Receiver System

    The receiver system is the target system for the storage of data migrated from the sender system. This is usually may be either a system shell or a full copy of the production system.

While any one of the sender system, central system, or control system can operate as the control system, we recommend a separate TDMS server – a combination of the central system and the control system.

You have installed SAP Test Data Migration Server.

Activities

You can connect the system roles of a system landscape using the following methods:

  • By assigning existing RFC connections

  • By specifying the system or client concerned and the logon data, and by generating and distributing the required RFC connections (according to the naming convention that is recommended)

  • By a mixture of predefined and generated RFC connections

    Recommendation Recommendation

    Using the input help to select the RFC connection can result in a time out due to the extensive system check. To avoid this, you can deactivate the system check: To do this, call up the LTS_PARAMS transaction in the system and deactivate the default SM59 System Check in F4 Help. Confirm your entries.

You can carry out the following activities related to the system landscape:

  • Select and Create a System Landscape

    1. You are in the execution plan.

    2. Select the system landscape type.

    3. Choose New and enter the system landscape ID and description.

    4. Choose Create.

  • Edit the System Landscape

    1. You have created a new system landscape and this is displayed in the list of all system landscapes.

    2. Choose a system landscape from the input help.

      A new display interface opens.

    3. Switch to the editing mode and make all required entries.

    4. Select the link for the new system landscape from the table and switch to the editing mode to make the required entries.

  • Assign SAP System IDs and Clients

    1. To assign SAP system IDs and clients to system roles of the system landscape, use the input help for the system ID or client.

    2. Enter the system ID and clients for all required system roles.

    3. Make additional entries to the system roles marked as optional, if necessary (in the case of additional analysis systems, for example).

    4. Choose Next to define the connections.

  • Enter or Change Description - View Status

    You can change the short text of a system landscape. In addition to the short text entry, you receive general information about the system landscape and status here.

  • Define Connections from the Control to the Remote System

    You can create the required RFC connection between the control and all other systems using one of the following methods:

    • You define a new RFC connection using the required settings of the target system: Server name, system number, system client, and RFC user. Once all entries have been made and confirmed, the generated connection receives a status entry and editing function. If an existing RFC connection was found with exactly the same settings, this connection is automatically used.

    • You choose an existing RFC connection. A search help on the basis of values is available here with which you can search for criteria such as connection name, target system, client, or user name. You can see if the definition is correct from the status.

  • Define Connections Between Other Systems

    You can create the required RFC connection between other systems using one of the following methods:

    • To use or create the required connections in the remote system, choose Distribute. With the Create Connections function, connections according to your definition are created remotely in the control system.

      You may be required to enter your connection password again.

    • You choose an existing RFC connection (you need the connection ID for this) in the calling system of a connection. You can use the status to check that the definition is correct. If all definitions of a system landscape are correct, the total status of the system landscape is set to green.
