About the SAP Fiori Launchpad on PortalLocate this document in the navigation structure

End users can access the SAP Fiori launchpad on Portal on both desktop and mobile devices. The launchpad is role-based, displaying tiles according to the user role.

In the launchpad, the home page is the entry point to applications. The home page displays tiles, each tile representing a business application that the user can launch. Tiles can display live status indicators, such as the number of open tasks.

The tile catalog is a collection of tiles that end users can launch and add to their home page.

When end users first open the home page, it may already contain some content added by the administrator, or it may be empty. End users can use the tile catalog to determine which content to add or remove.

Note

Some of the features provided in the SAP Fiori launchpad are not currently available in the portal. For more information, see 2031108 Information published on SAP site.

Personalization

Administrators configure whether or not end users can personalize the home page.

Administrators can also lock one group of tiles to prevent personalization. If a group is locked, end users will not be able to add tiles to or remove tiles from the group, and will not be able to reorder tiles within the group.

If a group is a predefined group, that is, it contains tiles with the property Default App on Home Page selected, end users cannot delete it but they can personalize it and reset their changes. Changes that the administrator makes to predefined groups will not be visible to the end user unless either the personalization is cleaned by the administrator, or the user resets the group.

When an end user logs on to the SAP Fiori launchpad for the first time, the home page state is saved. Changes that end users make to the home page are saved per device group. This enables end users to personalize their home page in one way for mobile devices and in another way for desktops, according to the device groups configured by the administrator.

SAP Fiori App Types

There are three app types, each with a different focus:

  • Transactional apps

  • Fact sheets

  • Analytical apps

SAP Fiori Launchpad Designer

You can use the launchpad designer deployed on the ABAP front-end server to manage ABAP/HANA catalogs, groups, and tiles, for your end users. The launchpad designer lets you create predefined groups for the home page and catalogs for the tile catalog. You can integrate the launchpad designer into the portal.

Additional Access Points

End users can access the SAP Fiori launchpad on Portal through the following:

  • SAP Fiori Client. A mobile application, which provides enhanced capabilities for end users accessing SAP Fiori applications on the home page from mobile devices.

For more information on SAP Fiori Client, in SAP Help Portal, navigate to Start of the navigation path Mobile Next navigation step SAP Fiori Client Next navigation step  End of the navigation path.

  • SAP NetWeaver Business Client for Desktop (NWBC). This provides an optimized user experience for end users who work mainly with SAP GUI transactional applications.
