Filtering Logs and TracesLocate this document in the navigation structure

Use

Use this procedure to find exact logs/traces that meet specific criteria. Each view has its own predefined filters. The main extra filters you can add are:

  • Time - dates, time and time zones

  • Severity - severity levels

  • Identifiers - Log ID, correlation ID, and so on

  • Log source - log controllers, local file system, host, and so on

  • Message content - key words or numbers from the log message

  • Single field - extra filtering by a single log field

Prerequisites

Open SAP NetWeaver Administrator and choose Start of the navigation path Troubleshooting  Next navigation step Logs and Traces  Next navigation step Log Viewer End of the navigation path.

Procedure

General Filtering

  1. Open a view in Log Viewer.

  2. Choose Show Advanced Filter .

  3. In the Filter by Content frame, select a criterion for filtering.

  4. From the adjacent fields, choose restrictive conditions and enter the filter content.

  5. Choose Apply Filters .

  6. To make a filter temporarily inactive, deselect the Active indicator.

If you want to delete a filter, choose Delete this row.

    Note

You can modify the filters you add only.

Filtering by a Single Field

This filter helps you view more logs that are related to the selected one. It also avoids manual entry of criteria in the Advanced Filter .

  1. Open a view in Log Viewer.

  2. Select the log record you are interested in and expand it to view details.

  3. Choose a filterable line (criterion) so that you can view the other logs that meet this criterion. You can choose between positive and negative filters.

  4. The criteria you have chosen are added to the Advanced Filter pane.

The more filter lines you select, the fewer filtered records are left.

Example

If you choose the filter in line " Date " 2009-02-11 , Log Viewer will show logs only from date 2009-02-11. You can then expand one of the new displayed log records, and choose, for example, the filter in line " Instance " JC01 . As a result, Log Viewer will show only logs from date 2009-02-11 on instance JC01.

Both filters are added to the Advanced Filter pane.

Filtering by Related Logs

This filter provides specific merged logs and traces related to the selected one. You can filter by DSR request and by HTTP session .

  1. Open a view in Log Viewer.

  2. Select the log record you are interested in.

  3. From the Related Logs dropdown button, choose By Request or By Session .

The Expert view is opened by default.

  4. In Filter by Content , you see the relevant filter criteria (either Passport User Activity ID or Passport HTTP Session ).

The table shows all the relevant logs and traces merged.

  5. For more precise filtering, you can choose a particular log file from the Display Log File dropdown list.
