For information about how to check the version of an existing SAP MC installation, see Getting the Latest Version of the SAP Management Console.

See SAP Note 1907683 Information published on SAP site about how to update older versions of this documentation within your local SAP Library installations.

How to check the version of SAP Management Console

You can check the version by choosing Start of the navigation path ? Next navigation step About End of the navigation path from the menu bar in the UI of the SAP MC. The Version: entry contains four digits: The first digit means the kernel version, and the second digit the patch level. The remaining digits are not relevant in this respect.

Example 7200, 417, 21, 20170, where 7200 is the kernel version and 417 is the patch level (PL).
Usage of SAP Management Console

Using the SAP MC you can:

  • Monitor and control (start, stop, or restart) the SAP system and its instances with a single tool

  • Display SAP log and trace files, start profiles, instance parameters, the system environment, SAP environment, Internet Communication Manager (ICM) queue statistics, and so on

  • Display and control Java processes

  • Display the ABAP work process overview and control ABAP processes

  • Monitor system alerts

  • Display the current status tree

  • Display the list of all access points to an SAP system

  • Display information about the AS Java threads, sessions, caches, aliases, Enterprise JavaBeans (EJB) sessions, and remote objects

  • Display Java Virtual Machine garbage collection and heap memory information for the application server

  • Save the current console configuration in a file to reuse it later or to forward it to other users

  • Start third-party tools (such as Telnet), if available, to manage an application server

Implementation Considerations

The SAP MC is a Java applet that can be run from any Web browser supporting Java. You can therefore administer remote systems without needing a local installation.
