Distributing Printer Groups to Target System Groups
You can
distribute one or more Printer Groups to one or more Target System Groups.
You cannot
distribute single Printers to single Target Systems or Target System Groups.
distribute Printer Groups to single Target Systems.
Note
If you want to distribute one PAL Printer to one Target System, you can create a Printer Group which contains only this PAL Printer and a Target System Group which contains only this Target System.
In the PAL Object List, select Printer Group
from the dropdown menu. Select your Printer Group from the list and click Distribute
. A selection screen with all defined Target System Groups appears. Select the Target System Group(s) you want distribute the Printer Group to.
Make sure that the distribution combinations are correct, then select OK
.
Before the distribution of the Printer Group takes place, PAL checks whether the device types of the PAL Printers in the Printer Group are correctly installed in the Target System(s). When a Target System supports the device type distribution function, you can install a missing device type remotely in the Central System as described in chapter Device Type Distribution.
Note
When a Target System does not support device type distribution, the Printer Group distribution might fail because PAL cannot check whether the required device types are available in the Target System or not.
When the Printer Group has been successfully distributed to the Target System Group(s), the members of your Printer Group (that is, the PAL Printers) can be used in the Target Systems for printing.
Note
When you change Printer Groups or Target System Groups after the distribution, you must update the distribution afterwards.
For example, when you add a PAL Printer to a Printer Group which is distributed to a Target System Group, you will receive the following notification message:
Printer(s) added to Printer Group "<NAME>". Updates in Target Systems will take place with next distribution.
Proceed as described in Distribution Status.
