This documentation describes how to configure and manage the SAP Web Dispatcher.

Prerequisites

The SAP Web Dispatcher must be installed. More information about installation: Importing the SAP Web Dispatcher.

Below is a list of the most important administration tasks.

Start and stop

Operating the SAP Web Dispatcher describes how you start and stop the SAP Web Dispatcher. Here you will also find the prerequisites for operating the SAP Web Dispatcher.

Parameterization/configuration

SAP Web Dispatcher Parameters describes the profile parameters for configuring the SAP Web Dispatcher. The settings should be appropriate for normal operation.

When you set the maximum values, note that unnecessarily large values can increase the Memory Requirement of the SAP Web Dispatcher.

Administration & Monitoring

You can use the Web administration interface to administrate, monitor, and set traces in, the SAP Web Dispatcher. The process is described in the section Using the Web Administration Interface.

Alternatively, you can access the Web Dispatcher administration and monitoring functions from the command line. More information: Using the icmon and wdispmon Command Line Programs.

You should only use these if you have problems with the Web administration.

You can also send operating system signals to the SAP Web Dispatcher. This can be useful if you want to execute functions in shell script. The SAP Web Dispatcher knows the same signals as the Internet Communication Manager (ICM). More information: Using Signals to Control the ICM / Web Dispatcher.

Modification of HTTP requests

You can configure the Web Dispatcher so that it modifies incoming HTTP requests before it forwards them to the application server.

You can manipulate header fields, filter (reject) specific requests, reformulate URLs, and so on.

Communication with the message server / application server using SSL

You can make the exchange of metadata with the message server and application servers secure by encrypting the data with SSL. More information: Setting Up Meta Data Exchange Using SSL.

Handling HTTPS requests

The SAP Web Dispatcher can handle HTTPS requests in different ways:

  • End-to-End SSL

  • Decrypts them and forwards them unencrypted

  • Decrypt and encrypt them again

These options are described in SAP Web Dispatcher and SSL.
