Function documentationDevice Type Distribution

This function checks whether the device types by the output devices which are the source of the PAL printers in this printer group are correctly installed in the target system(s).

The device type check runs automatically

Activities

When a device type is missing and the target system(s) support the device type distribution function, you can install the device type remotely from the central system in transaction PAL.

When a target system does not support device type distribution, you will receive the following message:

  • Device Type distribution not supported on Target System. Apply updates in Target System.

In this case PAL has no information about whether the required device type is available in the target system or not. When the required device type is missing, distributing a printer group to this target system will fail.

When a target system supports device type distribution, PAL checks whether the required device type is not present or whether it is outdated. You will receive the following messages:

  • Device Type not found

  • Older Device Type version in Target System found.

In both cases button Distribute Device Type in the last column will become active. If you want to distribute the associated device type to the target system before the actual printer group distribution takes place, click this button and confirm the next message with yes.

If you do not want to distribute the associated device type to the target system, you can also distribute the printer group directly by choosing Next.

Result

If target system supports device type distribution and the device type check is successful, you will receive the following message:

  • Device Type in Target System OK.
