Process documentationThe Distribution Process

Distribution is the final process of the Printing Assistant for Landscapes application.

When successfully distributed, the PAL Printers are controlled by PAL. This means the PAL Printers can only be changed in the Central System and can neither be changed nor deleted from the Target Systems they have been distributed to.

Distribution takes place between Printer Groups and Target System Groups only, not between single PAL Objects. A Printer Group may be distributed to several Target System Groups. The distribution can be dissolved by deleting the Printer Group from the Target System Group.

Process

  1. You have defined the PAL Landscape (Central System and Target Systems)

and created the RFC Destinations in the Central System.

  2. You have created your PAL Objects. You have defined Printer Groups and Target System Groups.

  3. Now you distribute the definitions from the Central System to the Target Systems.

Recommendation Recommendation

Start with the smallest Printer Group and the smallest Target System Group. Check the distribution status right afterwards and try to resolve errors before you go on with the next distribution. When the distribution is successfully finished, the PAL Printers can be used for printing rightaway; therefore it makes sense to finish the easy part first. Distribution of Printer Groups with many PAL Printers to Target System Groups with many Target Systems may take longer and error handling will be more complex, too, because the distribution status table will contain all PAL Printers and Target Systems that have been distributed up until then.

End of the recommendation.

Caution Caution

Do not distribute a PAL Printer from two different Central Systems to the same Target System. If you have more than one PAL landscape, our general recommendation is to keep them strictly separated.

End of the caution.
