The following functions have been added to the BEx Broadcaster:

●      Integration of reports and query views into information broadcasting

●      Generation of printable formats for Web templates, queries, query views, and reports, which can then be sent to printers

●      Integration of exception reporting

○       Searching queries for exceptions that have occurred

○       Distribution of exceptions by e-mail or with the Alert Framework

●      Master-data-based distribution of BI objects by e-mail (bursting)

●      Option to distribute BI objects with a broadcast setting using multiple channels (by e-mail, to portal, or to printer). Output formats supported are: MHTML (not for BI object report), HTML (not for BI object report), PDF, PS and PCL, online links to current data, and XML for MS Excel (XML for query and query view BI objects only)

●      Variables of the type precalculated value set for characteristic values can be filled with values in the background. The precalculated value sets are then available as variable values in queries.

●      Precalculation of queries to fill the OLAP cache to reduce the time required to access the data.

●      Precalculation of queries used as data providers for other applications. This allows you to improve the performance of these applications.

Precalculations and calls of Web templates with the parameter DATA_MODE are no longer supported.

Effects on Existing Data

In SAP NetWeaver 7.0, two versions of the BEx Broadcaster are delivered: an SAP NetWeaver 2004 version and an SAP NetWeaver 7.0 version. The version from SAP NetWeaver 2004 is started by the BEx tools from SAP NetWeaver 2004 and in the context menu for Web applications that use the SAP NetWeaver 2004 runtime. The version from SAP NetWeaver 7.0 is started by the BEx tools from SAP NetWeaver 7.0 and in the context menu for Web applications that use the new SAP NetWeaver 7.0 runtime. The portal roles Business Explorer (changed) and Business Intelligence (new) use the BEx Broadcaster from SAP NetWeaver 7.0. The iView for the BEx Broadcaster from SAP NetWeaver 2004 is still available for customer-specific scenarios. However, it is no longer used in the Business Explorer portal role.

Existing broadcast settings from SAP NetWeaver 2004 can be changed and edited with the BEx Broadcaster from SAP NetWeaver 2004.

If you use the new BEx Broadcaster from SAP NetWeaver 7.0, the following points apply:

●      You can create broadcast settings for all queries in the system. However, you must first recreate the settings. You cannot use existing broadcast settings from SAP NetWeaver 2004 for queries.

●      You can create broadcast settings for all Web applications that were created or converted using the Web Application Designer from SAP NetWeaver 7.0. You cannot create broadcast settings for Web applications from SAP NetWeaver 2004.

●      Broadcast settings for workbooks from SAP NetWeaver 2004 can still be used as before. No changes have been made.

To use the new functions described above, you must create new broadcast settings with the BEx Broadcaster from SAP NetWeaver 7.0.

Effects on Customizing

In Customizing, you can specify standard Web templates that specify how the BEx Broadcaster and precalculated queries are displayed.
