Defining an Output Device for Remote Printing on a Network Printer or a Printer Connected to a Microsoft Windows PC or UNIX
Your SAP application server is running on the IBM i operating system and you want to print on an output device that is connected to a UNIX server or a Microsoft Windows PC in the network. You do not want to create an output queue at IBM i level but print directly from the SAP spool system. This configuration is preferred if you do not need to print on the printer from outside the SAP application server and want to avoid spool administration at IBM i level.
Prerequisites
Your UNIX server or Microsoft Windows PC must be attached to the network and reachable through TCP/IP from your IBM i application server.
Ensure that you can already print documents on the printer from your UNIX server or Microsoft Windows PC.
If this is not the case, install the printer on the UNIX server or Microsoft Windows PC. For information about this, see your UNIX or Microsoft Windows documentation.
NoteIt is irrelevant whether the printer is directly connected to the PC or whether it is a shared network printer.
End of the note.If you want to print with the generic device type SWIN/SAPWIN, you must have installed the newest version of the SAPSprint transfer program on your Microsoft Windows PC.
