Activating the Trace Level in the
Passport
PMI tracing
processes allow the targeted tracing of individual process instances. You can
define the filter conditions in any step of the process. These filter
conditions lead to the setting of trace switches in the DSR
passport.
You are in the PMI process overview.
To set the trace switch in the DSR passport:
●
Select the process
step for which you want to activate trace switches in the current DSR passport
and choose
Activate Trace.
● The screen Trace Settings appears. Define the following filter conditions here:
○ Trace level
○ Number of traces to be performed
○ Application-specific filter values
The trace switches in the DSR passport are only activated if these filter conditions are fulfilled.
Wildcards are not allowed. Note that your entries are case-sensitive.

Some process steps have predefined filter values that you cannot change.
● Choose Activate.
For more information about trace levels, refer to the SAP Service Marketplace at service.sap.com/diagnostics → User Documentation → E2E Trace Analysis – User Guide.
● You can optionally choose Update to check how often the filter condition has already been fulfilled.
You can use the transaction ID from the passport, which is also displayed on the interface, you can search in a targeted way for trace entries in the relevant traces.
A process instance is now assembled. You can view the result in the process overview of the PMI.
● Choose Start Analysis.
● Close the process overview and choose Start Selection.
Once all of the data has been analyzed, you should deactivate tracing, since otherwise the trace flags in the passport are checked for every process step. You can deactivate tracing in two ways.
● Choose Deactivate on the Trace Settings screen to deactivate each step individually.
● Or choose Settings → General → Deactivate Tracing to deactivate tracing simultaneously for all steps.
Deactivation can take up to 30 seconds, since the system tries to collect PMI data from the connected systems once more.
You can update an analysis if a process has not finished running at the start of the analysis.
● To do this, select the relevant process instance and trigger a new analysis by choosing Update Analysis.
You have activated or deactivated the trace levels in the DSR passport.
