Use

With the Web Dynpro user interface for the User Management Engine (UME) you can manage users, groups, and roles for the SAP NetWeaver Application Server. The user interface is more intuitive and easier to use than the previous user management administration console.

Referred to as Identity Management, this user administration console is integrated into the SAP NetWeaver Portal user interface under the User Administration role. It is also integrated into the NetWeaver Administrator Web Dynpro user interface under System Administration Administration. In addition, you can start Identity Management as a stand-alone Web application. The stand-alone application includes the user management configuration tool previously only available from portal. The user interface has been standardized to provide the same look-and-feel no matter how you access the user interface.

Effects on System Administration

Because the Web Dynpro user interface is integrated into NetWeaver Administrator and Portal, you no longer have to start a stand-alone application in order to perform most identity and access management tasks.

Constraints on NetWeaver Administrator

The following functions are available in the stand-alone application and in Portal. These functions are not fully integrated into NetWeaver Administrator for this release:

      Import

You can import users, groups, and roles from a plain text file into the UME.

      User management configuration

You can set UME properties for the UME data source, security profile, e-mail notification, and user mapping with Identity Management (instead of the J2EE Config Tool).

For more information on how to access Identity Management, see User Administration Console.

Constraints on Replication

Replication is no longer supported in the UME user interface. There are better methods for ensuring that users have the same user IDs in both the UME and the SAP systems. For more information about other options for handling your user data, see Integration of User Management in Your System Landscape.

In exceptional circumstances, where no other solution is possible, the user management administration console is still available. For more information, see SAP Note 869852.

Availability of the Previous User Interface

The previous version of the user interface is still available during the transitional period of this release. For information about how to enable the previous interface, see SAP Note 869852.

Constraints on Available Language Selection

You can no longer determine which languages appear for selection in the Language drop-down box of the Details of User view. The list of languages available for selection is fixed.
