Example documentationExamples of Effective Device Type Search

If you only use the mandatory selection category manufacturer’s name for the device type search as described in Using the Device Type Selection Function, this may result in a long list of possible printer model - device type combinations because some manufacturers provide many printers. To narrow down the search result, you can specify more selection criteria in the top-level section of the Device Type Selection Function. You can also customize the list of results and install missing device types in the system.

Additional Search Criteria
  • In the Language field, you can choose a language which should be supported by the device type. If you search for device types which support a combination of different languages (for example Japanese, Thai and Western European languages), select MULTIPLE LANGUAGE GROUP and press Show Printers (Show Printers). An additional dialog screen will be visible which lists all available languages and ‘language groups’ such as Western European or Eastern European. Select the required entries from the list and choose . The result will be displayed in the ALV Grid list.

    Note Note

The feature MULTIPLE LANGUAGE GROUP is only available in Unicode Systems or in systems which serve as the central system of the Printing Assistant for Landscapes (PAL) application.

    End of the note.
  • In the Printer Model field you can limit the search to one specific printer model or a selection of preferred printer models.

More Information
  • The list of printer models has a context menu which provides additional functions after you click with the secondary mouse button on a list field. Note that the context menu varies with the cursor position. If you want to open detailed information about the device type, for example, the cursor must be on the device type name before you click with the secondary mouse button.

  • Pushbutton Filter from the ALV Grid menu offers two options: Unicode Fonts and SNMP Job Status. To set the filter back, select .

  • In some cases the Remark field is filled with information which should be taken into account. For example:

    • For cascading font printing only

    • No additional print options

    • Additional print options: Input tray(Paper Source1-2, MP, AUTO) and Double-sided Printing.

You can find more information by calling the corresponding SAP Note. Choose next to Reference SAP Note.

  • If a device type is displayed in subsection Select a Device Type with remark ‘<NAME> (not existing in the system)’, you can install it directly from the Device Type Selection function. Choose and follow the instructions on the following screen.
