Insert Local Locks for Customizing Objects

Use

Local locks lock standard Customizing objects (views, view clusters, tables with text tables) in the managed systems against further maintenance. You specify the Customizing objects to be locked in a synchronization group, and distribute the information to the systems to be locked. Local locks are independent of the availability of SAP Solution Manager.

Possible use scenarios:

  • You use the Customizing Distribution and the lock functions together. You can use the same synchronization group for the Customizing Distribution and to lock the Customizing objects in the synchronization group locally. In this case, Customizing only reaches the managed system centrally, in the Customizing Distribution.

  • You only use local locks, without using Customizing Distribution.

    Note Note

In all scenarios, you can also filter local, non-maintainable Customizing for key fields.

For further information about the interaction of the various lock mechanisms in Customizing Distribution, see: Lock logic in Customizing Distribution

    End of the note.

Prerequisites

You are authorized to set up local locks as system administrator and customizer in the SAP Solution Manager system and in the managed systems.

Procedure

  1. Define the synchronization group with the objects that are to be locked or explicitly released, in the synchronization group editor. If you only use the synchronization group for locks, you can specify the same logical system for the target to be locked, in the source and target reference systems.

    Caution Caution

You can only lock standard Customizing objects.

    End of the caution.
  2. Choose Start of the navigation path Goto Next navigation step Set-Up Customizing Locks End of the navigation path , in the Customizing Distribution initial screen.

  3. Choose the synchronization group.

  4. Choose the targets for the locks.

The standard Customizing objects in the synchronization group are locked against changes in the target system. If you filter the Customizing objects, only the filtered entries are locked (as with Customizing Distribution).

  5. Save your entries.

    Note Note

If you change a synchronization group after activating a lock (for example, by adding a new object or a filter), the lock is automatically refreshed.

    End of the note.

Result

You can see actively locked objects by selecting the lock entry and choosing Start of the navigation path Goto Next navigation step DisplayActive Locks in the Target System End of the navigation path . If you lock by filter, you can see the filter by double-clicking the relevant field. You can go to theIMGactivity in the target system containing the Customizing object by double-clicking theIMGactivity.

You can see objects that are not lockable or only partially lockable in a synchronization group by choosing Goto -> Display Synchronization Group .
