To use project management in SAP Solution Manager 7.2, you need to set it up and, if you are upgrading from SAP Solution Manager 7.1, activate your projects.
You are familiar with the following functions:
SAP Portfolio and Project Management, under http://help.sap.com/ppm
Set up the project management in the SAP Solution Manager: Configuration
work center (transaction SOLMAN_SETUP
), under Project Management
. The guided procedure includes the following activities:
Checking prerequisites
Configuring project management: report to copy customizing of project management from existing project types
Maintaining the configuration: more detailed customizing
Mapping transaction types to task types
Mapping task status to transaction status
Mapping object types to roadmap node types
Connecting project types to the solution documentation
Restricting status values in transaction assignment
Mapping SAP Best Practice package node types
Create template users
For more information, see the help texts in the guided procedure.
As of SAP Solution Manager 7.2, instead of the dual concept of solutions and projects, the new solution documentation model is a hierarchical structure which uses a solution as the single, central point of access for the solution documentation. You manage your solutions in Solution Administration
(transaction SOLADM
). To continue using your existing SAP Solution Manager projects, you need to activate your content in the solution documentation. You only need to activate current and future projects. You can display non-activated projects, but you cannot edit them.
The following activation scenarios are possible:
The project is already assigned to the project management.
In this case, you do not need to make any manual adjustments. The ITPPM activation job makes all the necessary changes automatically.
The project is not assigned to the project management, but at least one roadmap is assigned.
In this case, select the roadmap on which to base the project structure, and enter basic information about the project management project, before activation.
The project is not assigned to the project management, and no roadmap is assigned.
In this case, you cannot activate the project.
You can activate projects in Solution Documentation Content Activation
. For more information, see .
The behavior of a PPM project to which an old, not activated SAP Solution Manager project is assigned, is the following:
When you open a PPM project, you get a warning that informs you about the not activated SAP Solution Manager project.
In the project, on the Solution Documentation
tab, you cannot change the assignment of the project, but you can navigate to it and display it.
After changing the project status, you can save it, but it is not updated in SAP Solution Manager applications.
You cannot assign a business transaction to a task, manually on the Transaction
tab, or automatically
You can perform all activities that have no impact on synchronization.
Behavior of not activated projects in the project administration of SAP Solution Manager (transaction code solar_project_admin
):
New fields are added in the header, to display the project, external ID, name, and type. This data is read-only, and is updated when the integration occurs (and when the PPM project ID or name is changed). These fields are hidden if the SAP Solution Manager project is not integrated with a PPM project.
The status field is read-only.
Time planning data is not visible. The following fields are hidden:
under Plan Data
: Start Time
, End Time
, Resources
under Actual Data
: Start Time
, End Time
, Remaining Work
, Resources
, Completion Rate
The Project Team Member
tab includes resources that were assigned in the project management, in addition to those assigned in transaction solar_project_admin
. The resources are read-only. They can only be changed in the project management. You cannot add new team members in solar_project_admin
.
Resources which are in the SAP Solution Manager project, but not assigned to the PPM project, are handled as follows:
If a resource is not assigned to the business blueprint or configuration (transactions solar01
and solar02
), it will be deleted from solar_project_admin
.
If a resource is assigned to the business blueprint or configuration, it is retained, and editable, in solar_project_admin
.
If a resource is deleted in the PPM project, the system checks if it is assigned to any blueprint element. If so, a pop-up informs you before the deletion, and you can cancel the deletion, or delete the resource, including its use in the blueprint elements.
A function to navigate to the PPM project is added to the menu in solar_project_admin
. Choose . This menu entry is inactive if no PPM project is assigned to the SAP Solution Manager project.
You cannot delete an SAP Solution Manager project if it is assigned to a PPM project. If you try to do so, an information pop-up informs you about the connection to the PPM project.
